Botanical Garden

Botanical Garden  is a subdivision of Kherson State University. The Provost for Educational Research, Finance, and Economy is the person in charge of the Botanical Garden.

The Botanical Garden was founded in 1934, with the aim of studying and preserving the biodiversity of the plant kingdom in the artificial contexts for their further scientific, cultural and economic use.In 1972, the Botanical Garden assigned a status of a park, a local significant site of the garden art.

The biological diversity of the Botanical Garden’s collection fund includes more than 220 species of woody plants, 200 species of herbaceous plants, 60 species of mushrooms, 20 species of lichens, and 15 species of mosses.

Botanical Garden’s Purpose: The most outstanding and valuable examples of landscaping are usually declared the park as significant site of the garden art. They are protected and used for aesthetic, educational, scientific, environmental and recreational purposes.The Botanical Garden is functioning as an environmental, recreational, cultural and educational institution. It serves as a scientific and educational base of the University as well.

Primary objectives and basic functions: 

  • conservation of plant collections of local and world flora, as well as rare and threatened species in artificial conditions;
  • providing the educational process for students of Kherson State University and other educational institutions;
  • carrying out scientific research and observations, plant introduction;
  • creation of new exhibition sites, collections development;
  • land use for scientific, health-related, recreational and environmental-educational purposes;
  • conducting practical studies, lab practicals, seminars with college and secondary school students;
  • scientific research;
  • cultural, educational, recreational, artistic and sporting events.
