Khersonregion has always been famous for its sports traditions. Such sports as Sculls rowing and canoeing, table tennis, athletics, archery, shooting, volleyball, wrestling, chess for many years were presented by our athletes in competitions of the highest level (Olympic Games, World Championships and European all-union competitions, sports days of the USSR). It is enough to mention such names as Larisa Latynina, Ivan Sotnikov and Valery Borzov, Sergey Chukhrai, Sergei Postryehin, Elena Vecherok, Eldar Asanov, Natalia Zhukova, Alexander Beres and others. All have achieved significant sports results under the guidance of qualified coaches: Michael Sotnychenka, Boris Wojtas, Eduard Marchenko, Alexey Kolybelnykov, Valery Thalmann and others.
Unfortunately, over the years in the scientific and methodical preparation in the school and youth sport politely trends in the backlog, which led to a decrease in athletic performance. Acute preparation specialists in physical education in schools. The fact that they are prepared mainly Mykolayiv Pedagogical Institute. This was a prerequisite for the decision of the regional department of public education, administration of Kherson State Pedagogical Institute in Kherson State Pedagogic Institute on the establishment of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports. Students-athletes who are preparing sports club of our university for many years became winners and prize-winners of various competitions. There were established contacts with the school of Olympic reserve sports schools. As a result of purposeful work management institution, the regional department of public education in 1993 opened a specialty "PHC. Biology and Physical Education", and from 1994 on the basis of this specialty was established Faculty of Physical Education and Sports.
The base of the Faculty of Physical Education department was headed for 25 years master of sports, a great enthusiast of his case Gennady Ovcharenko and Sports Club "Petrel" headed by the dean of the faculty, honored coach of Ukraine Valentin Ivanovich Sabadash.
After the founding faculty opened two new departments: the theory and methodology of physical education and sports sciences.
Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education was headed by a graduate of our institute, master of sports, associate professor of O.B. Pryshva With him worked at the Department: doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor L.P. Sergienko, V.V. Bevzjuk, G.P .Goloborodko, O.H. Lanovenko, lecturers I.V. Malyarenko, T.I. Mykerchuk. The main areas of research of the department were the methods of individualization of physical education students and their recovery by means of physical culture. Teachers of the department published 18 scientific papers, published 4 books, they took part in national and international conferences and congresses. Tradition was held each year scientific student conferences related to the application of physical education to adolescents healed.
The department of sport disciplines after its opening in 1994, led by the master of sports, associate professor V.S. Bevzjuk (1935-2008)/ In 1997 it was annexed of chief department of physical education, led by M.D. Nedbaylo. Together with them work dean of the faculty, associate professor V.I. Sabadash, associate professor V. Petrychenko, master of sports of international class, V. Skvortsov, master of sports, instructor S.L.Kutsehub, veterans of department, teachers E.I .Bezhrebelna, A.V.Boromenskyy, L.V. Gavrilchenko, O.G. Shalar, M.I .Shvidkiy, I. Y. Zaitsev and teachers Y.Frankiewicz, Y. Emelyanov, S.O. Dubrovna, A.A. Smolenskiy, master of sport, honored coach of Ukraine Yu Vorontsov, A.S. Edelyev and chairman of the sports club M.V. Odintsov. Faculty actively participated in regional, national and international conferences. They are the authors of guidelines for teachers and students of the field of physical education and sport.
You should also remember the veterans department of physical education S.P. Suprun, L.D. Popov and those who are not among us G.Z.Ovcharenko, S.O. Ponomarenko, V.G. Agafonov, L.S. Agafonov. These were highly qualified teachers and great people. Forever will light memory.
In 1998 the first department produces 37 professionals, of which 32 are sent to work in the school area. It should be noted that among the first graduates of 6 students had the title of master of sports of international class, 18 - Master of Sports, 7 - Candidate Master of Sports, 1 first level. The following year, 34 of the 42 graduates of the professional career start in schools.
For the first two decades of professional diplomas faculty with higher education were more than 1,000 graduates, of which 750 more educational qualification of specialist and more 150 master. Diplomas with honors received about 60 graduates.
Today the leadership of educational, scientific, sports and entertainment and educational activities of the Faculty dean: Dean - professor Kedrovskiy Boris, deputy dean for teaching work - associate professor Andreeva Regina, dean of organizational and educational work - Victoria Koval - associate professor.
Educational process of special courses carry three departments: the theory and methodology of physical education - associate professor Malyarenko Irina, Olympic and professional sports - associate professor Strikalenko Eugene A., biomedical foundations of physical education and sport - associate professor Sergey Vozniy. The departments staffed by experienced teachers: four professors - Smulskiy Valeriy, Kutz Alexander, Romaskevych Yuri, Zemlyakov Vladimir, twenty candidates, three honored coaches of Ukraine - Yuriy Kahn, Miloslavskii Mikhail? Izdebskyy Valeriy; deserved Doctor of Ukraine - professor Romaskevych Yuri, the coach of the National team of Ukraine - Valery Plohenko, 30 masters of sport, two judges of the international category.
All teachers of the department have the appropriate basic higher education. KSU research departments are constantly monitored for retraining and professional staff of the faculty. Over the past three years of advanced training in postgraduate education 9 teachers.
The Department has a strong educational and material base. The students university library, reading rooms, a teaching room, which has more than 1500 copies of scientific and technical literature.
For twenty years, the main task of the teaching faculty is to train professionals towards "Physical education, sport and health" education for education and sport and sports organizations.
Today, the full-time, part-time and external forms of training to more than 450 students.
Three departments of the faculty prepare specialists in such specialties:
- Physical Education. Specializations: organization of mass sports, tourist activities; organization of sports and health work, basics of health (full-time and part-time education);
- Sports (by) (full-time education);

Typical activities of these specialists are sports and recreation, sports, educational, institutional, recreational, teaching, research, organizational and management activities in preschool institutions, secondary schools, colleges, sports and sports organizations, institutes, the system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
