The program aims to provide educational exchange experiences which would be valuable not only to the scholar, but also to the recipient's home institution, its faculty, and its students, as well as to the U.S.host institution. Fulbright Scholars serve as cultural ambassadors; they should be prepared to speak not only about their research with academic colleagues but also about their country and culture with academic and community groups.
The program provides opportunities to Ukrainian scholars and professionals to establish new contacts with academic and professional colleagues in the U.S.; to develop collaborative research relationships with U.S. scholars and professionals; and to pursue scholarly work in the U.S. without interruption. Grant recipients will have free and open use of their host institution's extensive library resources to enhance their knowledge, gather literature unavailable in Ukraine, and to revise or create new scholarly publications.
The grant also provides funding for the immediate family (spouse and minor children) of the grantee to travel and live in theU.S. with the grantee for part or all of the grant term.

Selection Process:
The selection process will consider the candidate's professional achievements, feasibility of the proposed project, and benefits of the project to the grantee's field and to its continued development and/or impact inUkraine.

  • First screening of applications is done by the Fulbright Program inUkraine. Applications are reviewed for completeness and candidate eligibility.
  • American and Ukrainian area experts review approved applications and recommend semi-finalists.
  • Semi-finalists are invited to an interview conducted in English before a selection committee composed ofU.S.and Ukrainian scholars and officials.

The selection committee recommends finalists and alternatives to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for final decision. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington, DC will assist in determining the hosting U.S. university
