KSU Rector Visits Tbilisi State University

The Rector of Kherson State University, Oleksandr Spivakovskiy, is on a working visit to Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia).

This higher education institution is rightly considered the number one university in the region, currently hosting around 22,000 students across its 7 faculties.

On September 9, Oleksandr Spivakovskiy met with the Rector of Tbilisi State University, Jaba Samushia, who is a graduate of the university's Faculty of History and a well-known scholar and researcher, as well as with the Vice-Rector, Doctor Astakhishvili.

"In a sign of support and respect for the Ukrainian people, there are two flags on the main flagpole of TSU today: the Georgian and the Ukrainian. Even the T-shirt presented by the Rector symbolizes the friendship of our two nations and bears the inscription 'Struggle, brothers!'

I thanked Jaba Samushia for the hospitality that Ukrainians, who have been forced to leave their homes due to the war, feel from the Georgians," noted Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.

The KSU Rector presented two publications: an institutional publication about the life of the KSU community during the first year of the full-scale invasion, titled "The Black Swan in the History of Kherson State University, or Chronicles of the Relocated University," and personal reflections on the events of the war and occupation from our teachers, staff, students, and alumni, titled "Kherson Essays: Live to Win."

"As a historian, my colleague, the Rector, understands the value of these books, which were written in the heat of events, when we were all caught up in tragic and extreme circumstances and had to make non-standard decisions, sometimes disregarding the threat to our lives.

He briefly presented the main areas of development for Kherson State University. These include digitalization, considering the potential of artificial intelligence, international partnerships, education quality, scientific activity, and preserving history and Kherson identity even under relocation conditions," Oleksandr Spivakovskiy shared.

There was also a tour of the university, which provided an opportunity to immerse oneself in the over 100-year history of TSU, experiencing the national color and the peculiarities of the educational system, which is well integrated into the European framework.

TSU has over 300 partner universities and research centers in 56 countries; it collaborates with more than 150 European universities within the framework of the international credit mobility program "Erasmus+" and exchange programs.

"We agreed with Mr. Samushia that in November we will sign a memorandum of cooperation between our universities, as there are many educational programs through which we can organize virtual and real international mobility, implement joint projects, and many other directions.

So, this is just the beginning... KSU + TSU = friendship!" concluded Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.
