Today, November 26, students and lecturers of the FCSPM had the opportunity to attend a guest lecture by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Mathematical and Functional Analysis at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University — Andrii Vasylovych Zahorodniuk.
The lecture was dedicated to the role of mathematics in the modern world and its historical evolution. The lecturer outlined the path of development of mathematical thought—from the first attempts to organize quantitative concepts in ancient civilizations to the formation of fundamental theories that became the basis of modern science and technology. Special attention was paid to key periods in the formation of the discipline and the contributions of prominent scientists whose discoveries determined the directions of the further development of mathematics.
During the presentation, it was demonstrated that mathematics is not only an abstract science but also a universal language that ensures precision, predictability, and the formalization of complex processes. The lecturer emphasized that modern technical fields—from engineering to information technologies—critically depend on the mathematical apparatus, which makes it possible to model phenomena, optimize processes, and create new tools. Such interdisciplinarity demonstrates that mathematical methods lie at the foundation of innovation and scientific progress.
Despite the diversity of the audience—which included mathematicians, engineers, and programmers—the lecture was presented in an easy and accessible manner. The lecturer avoided excessive formalization, offering instead logical and understandable examples that illustrated the practical value of mathematics. This allowed listeners with different professional backgrounds to see the common intellectual basis of their own fields and realize that mathematics remains a key tool in solving modern scientific and technological problems.
We sincerely thank Andrii Vasylovych for the visit and the inspiring presentation!
