The lecture on the topic: "Diagnostic approaches in professional and career counseling" was given by Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University O.L. Protas for applicants of all levels of study in specialties 231 Social Work and I10 Social Work and Counseling



On December 17, 2025, within the framework of the Week of Full-time Study at the Faculty of Psychology, History and Sociology, a guest lecture for applicants of all levels of study in specialties 231 Social Work and I10 Social Work and Counseling was given by Oksana Lyubomyrivna Protas, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Social Work of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. The topic of the lecture was “Diagnostic Approaches in Professional and Career Counseling”.
During the lecture, applicants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with career guidance as a system of measures aimed at choosing a profession; learned about professional and career counseling as components of the professional orientation of the population; considered the role of diagnostics in career counseling of an individual and identifying a predisposition to choosing a profession.; and also learned about the structure of a resume and life hacks in preparing a resume.
The lecture attendees were interested in learning that upon completion of the OPP “Social Work” and OPP “Social Work and Counseling” training, they can find employment in their specialty in institutions and organizations in the social sphere: in social service centers; territorial social service centers (provision of social services), their specialized formations; institutions of social and psychological rehabilitation; institutions (institutions, organizations) in the fields of public administration, social protection and provision of social services; healthcare institutions; educational and cultural institutions; institutions of employment of the population; in the law enforcement sphere; in the field of national security; non-governmental public and charitable organizations, etc.
Future social work specialists were interested in learning the specifics and features of the position of “career consultant” during the lecture; that the profession of "career consultant" in Ukraine received official registration and recognition at the state level, on October 21, 2025, the Professional Standard "Career Consultant" was approved and entered into the Register of Professions, until now Career Counseling has developed without a professional standard - specialists worked on the basis of training programs, projects, certifications and initiatives of organizations, did not have a codified status in the National Classifier of Professions.
Professor O. Protas spoke about the fact that a career consultant is a specialist who helps a person find his way in the profession: conducts diagnostics and career guidance; accompanies during employment and adaptation; advises managers on personnel management; helps in building career strategies and developing potential.
O. Protas introduced the students to the information that, according to the professional standard, career counselors can be graduates of the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education in the specialties "Social Work" and the OPP "Social Work and Counseling", because this activity involves working with different groups of clients, and the profession "career counselor" will be included in the national classifier of professions of Ukraine.
The audience of the guest lecture concluded that career counseling is aimed at supporting everyone on the path to professional success!
