Head of Department, Professor VD douche together with other scientists of Ukraine visited monument IE Tamm in. Kirovograd on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth. Since 1898 IE Tamm lived in. Kirovograd, where he graduated Elisavetgrad gymnasium in 1913 and, after graduating from Moscow University he worked in the Crimea and Odessa.

Professor of The Moscow Physical-Technical Institute of IE Tamm - an outstanding physicist. He built a quantum theory of light scattering in solids (1930) and the theory of light scattering by electrons (1930). In the quantum theory of metals together with Semyon Petrovich Shubin created the theory of the photoelectric effect in metals (1931). Theoretically showed the possibility of special states of electrons on the surface of the crystal ("Tamm levels", 1932), which later formed the basis of explanation of the different surface effects in crystals. In 1934 Tamm tried to explain through their theory of beta nature of the forces that hold together the particles of the nucleus. In the years 1936-1937 physicists Igor Tamm and Ilya Frank proposed a theory that explains the nature of radiation, which found Paul Cherenkov, watching refractive medium, exposed to gamma radiation. Tamm and Frank considered the case of an electron moving faster than light in the medium. While the vacuum is impossible, this phenomenon occurs in refractive media. Thus, I. Tamm was one of the founders of the theory of Cerenkov radiation-Vavylova.U 1958 Tamm, Frank and Cerenkov was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for the study of the theory of the Vavilov-Cerenkov radiation. Delivering the highest scientific award just three global Soviet scientist (the first and only time in the history of the Nobel Prize) was striking recognition of the achievements of Soviet physics.

October 15 in Kirovohrad Pedagogical University. Vladimir Vinnichenko held the second international conference "Modern yendentsiyi teaching physics in secondary and high school" dedicated to the 120th anniversary of IE Tamm.
