Winter school Erasmus+ BURN project

Wednesday, January 15, 2025

On 13 January 2025, as part of the Erasmus+ BURN project - ‘Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-) War Ukrainian Nation’ - representatives of the KSU Department of Psychology together with Ukrainian partners took part in the Winter School. The training is aimed at preparing specialists who will provide psychological support at the Centre for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing.

The winter school is dedicated to a special method of trauma therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) - eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (trauma processing).
The first day of the training began with a speech by Professor Lars Kulchinke from the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU) (Berlin, Germany), who described the structure of the training and provided recommendations for learning the technique. After that, clinical psychologist Mark Grant introduced the workshop participants to the key elements of EMDR structure, phases and skills. The practical part of the training was full of case studies and videos of Mark Grant's therapeutic work, which allowed for a better understanding of the method's strategy.

The participants of the Winter School will spend two weeks gaining valuable experience in working with trauma. We are grateful to the organisers of the International Psychoanalytic University and Ukrainian partners for sharing best practices in the field of psychological support for university communities affected by the war.
