Khersonschyna's Physics and Mathematics Education: At the Crossroads of Traditions and Innovation

On November 11, 2025, the Faculty of Computer Science, Physics, and Mathematics hosted the Reporting Scientific and Practical Conference for students pursuing the second (Master's) level of higher education. The conference was held within the framework of the educational and professional programs "Secondary Education (Mathematics)" and "Secondary Education (Physics)," as part of the celebrations for the 108th anniversary of the founding of Kherson State University.

Furthermore, the event acquired special symbolism as it took place exactly on November 11 — the Day of Kherson's Liberation from Occupation 🇺🇦 (2022). Discussing the development of Ukrainian education in the Kherson region on such a significant day underscored the unyielding nature of our aspirations for the restoration and advancement of the scientific and educational potential of the region.

The conference was opened by the Head of the Department of Algebra, Geometry, and Mathematical Analysis, Volodymyr I. Tatochenko, who addressed the participants with the following words:

"Dear colleagues, lecturers, and students! Today, we have the opportunity to share the results of our scientific research, discuss new ideas and prospects for the development of mathematical and physical education, and exchange practical experience that will contribute to enhancing the professional competence of future mathematics and physics teachers. The conference is not only a platform for presenting one's own research but also an environment for creative, critical thinking, discussing current problems in teaching mathematics and physics, searching for innovative methods and approaches in the professional training of future educators."

The following students presented the results of their scientific research:

  • Anastasiia Lymarenko (Topic: Methodology for studying the concept of an invariant in the elective mathematics course in the 10th grade);

  • Serhii Savchenko (Topic: The use of artificial intelligence tools in teaching mathematics in secondary education institutions);

  • Kateryna Byslova (Topic: Methodology for studying Steiner–Lehmus theorem in the elective mathematics course in the 9th grade);

  • Vitalii Smyk (Topic: Formation of logical thinking in high school students during algebra and calculus lessons under conditions of education digitalization);

  • Hanna Kovalchuk (Topic: Functions and their properties: from theory to practical problems);

  • Liudmyla Kotovska (Topic: The use of the Google Work Space for Education platform in the process of studying algebra in middle school);

  • Olesia Shershen (Topic: Methodology for using construction problems in the geometry course to form spatial thinking in general secondary education institutions);

  • Vitalii Mykytsei (Topic: Methodology for applying applied problems when studying mathematics in general secondary education institutions);

  • Oksana Matvieieva (Topic: Fractal sets in the school mathematics course);

  • Volodymyr Dychok (Topic: Methodology for using analytical and constructive methods for solving geometric problems in the process of studying the course of elementary mathematics in higher education institutions).

The presentations were interesting and diverse.

Lecturers from the Departments of Algebra, Geometry, and Mathematical Analysis, as well as the Department of Physics, who supervised the scientific papers, also participated in the event. They provided valuable advice and comments regarding the improvement of the quality of the qualification papers and the presentation performances.

During the conference, new ideas and prospects for the development of education were discussed. Collaborative work, exchange of experience, and constructive discussion helped to expand scientific horizons and, undoubtedly, will contribute to enhancing the professional competence of future mathematics and physics teachers.
