About the Faculty

 

The Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism is a powerful team of teachers who are able to train qualified philologists, specialists in foreign languages with wide erudition, brought up in the best traditions of Kherson State University.

The activities of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism are aimed at creating conditions for professional and personal growth of all participants in the educational process. The faculty prepares teachers, translators, teachers of two foreign languages, specialists in applied linguistics in the specialties 014.02 Secondary education (language and literature (with language)) and 035 Philology.

Today, FUIFJ continues the glorious scientific and teaching traditions that have begun since its inception. Ukraine's integration into the European space, expansion of international cooperation in the fields of economy, education, science, culture puts before higher education institutions the task of quality training of higher education, academic titles and degrees in foreign languages in accordance with international standards.
The main structural units of the faculty are five departments: the Department of English Language and Methods of Teaching (Head - Professor OO Zabolotskaya), the Department of English Philology and Applied Linguistics (Head - Associate Professor Yu. V. Kishchenko), the Department of German and Romance Philology. (Head - Associate Professor SM Soldatov), Department of Slavic Philology and World Literature named after Professor O. Mishukov (Head - Associate Professor R. Gladkov), Department of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism (Head - Associate Professor SM Klimovich) .
Professional training of future specialists in foreign languages and literatures is carried out by highly qualified specialists: 42 teachers have a degree and title, including: 7 doctors of sciences, professors. Professors L.I. Belekhova, YI Bilyaev, LM Rudenko, NP Tropin have the title of "Honorary Professor of the University", and Professor G.O. Mikhailovskaya - the title of "Honorary Doctor of Science of the University". Professors L.M. Rudenko, LI Белехова, О.О. Zabolotska and associate professor SM Soldiers have the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine."
The teaching staff, along with experienced specialists, most of whom have the degree of candidate or doctor of sciences, also includes young, promising graduates of the faculty, who increase their scientific and pedagogical potential in the leading universities of our country and abroad.
In recent years, FUIFJ has become a regional educational center for the latest technologies in foreign language teaching. All departments of the faculty maintain close ties with academic research institutions of Ukraine, near and far abroad, in particular, Poland, Great Britain, Germany, Austria. Leading domestic and foreign scientists are invited to read special courses and hold seminars. Faculty members undergo internships at universities in Poland, Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom.
For many years, the faculty has been working closely with the Goethe Institute, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk, Poland. In February 2018, 2nd year students of SVO "Bachelor" began studying in the international program of double diplomas together with the Pomeranian Academy, majoring in German and Polish.
To ensure the growth of scientific potential of teachers at the faculty work: postgraduate and doctoral studies in the specialty 10.02.04 - "Germanic languages (English)"; 13.00.02 - “Theory and methods of teaching (foreign languages)”; 13.00.02 - “Theory and methods of teaching (Russian language)”. The faculty has a specialized academic council K 67.051.05 for the defense of candidate dissertations in the specialty 10.02.04 - Germanic languages.
Students, masters, graduate students and doctoral students of the faculty take an active part in all-Ukrainian and international foreign language programs, receive educational grants for study abroad, related to improving their speaking skills, for example, in England, Denmark, Germany, USA, Holland, in Cyprus. Language internships in English, Polish, German and higher education in Austria (Alpen-Adria University, Klagenfurt) and Poland (Pomeranian Academy, Slupsk) have become traditional for students of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism. mobility, their participation in the dialogue of cultures with native speakers - professors and students of the countries whose language is studied.
A component of the educational process at the faculty is the active involvement of students in research and creative research. Students take part in all-Ukrainian student conferences and win all-Ukrainian Olympiads and scientific competitions. The best student scientific achievements were awarded by academic scholarships of the President of Ukraine. According to many indicators of student research, the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism entered the top three faculties of KSU (2018).

has the appropriate material and technical base: at the service of students educational and methodical offices of multimedia technologies of foreign languages, a reading room for 100 workplaces, 12 lecture halls, 20 classrooms for practical and laboratory classes. To promote the study of languages, literatures and cultures of other peoples, the organization of cultural ties, exchange of students, teachers and scientific achievements, internships at the faculty created a center of Polish language and culture, where events dedicated to culture, customs, traditions of the Polish people; honorary guests of such events are members of the Kherson Regional Polish Society "Polonia", students of secondary schools of Kherson.
Socio-humanitarian work at the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism promotes the development of student government in various forms, protects the rights and interests of students, promotes the development of their skills of democratic, organizational management. The answer to the challenges of the modern world is the national education of student youth, the main purpose of which at the faculty is to form a conscious citizen - a patriot of the Ukrainian state, through the acquisition of national consciousness, active citizenship, high moral qualities. In extracurricular activities, effective forms and methods of working with student youth are used. Thus, productive in this regard is the celebration of national holidays, holding various thematic events, including exhibitions, promotions, flash mobs on relevant topics, which allow you to join the traditions of your people.
Students of the faculty are actively involved in charitable volunteer activities. Faculty graduates and students are members of charitable organizations, including the Kherson Volunteer Club, whose priority is to work with orphans in Kherson. Thanks to various projects, master classes, or just warm communication, the volunteers of the faculty invest their love and strength in the development of spiritual and emotional potential of children in need of attention and care.
Realization of creative potential of students is carried out in faculty collectives of amateur art. Annual festivals and competitions allow students to show their own aesthetic taste, contribute to the education of a high culture of behavior. Thus, the student body of the faculty repeatedly won prizes and became a winner in vocal and choreographic competitions and festivals not only at the university level, but also in the city ("Young Wave", "Young Ukraine", etc.).
Promoting a healthy lifestyle among students, the student council together with the leadership of the faculty attracts students to classes in various sports sections and clubs, created and led by leading specialists of KSU. Students take part in various sports competitions, namely the traditional cross-country "Golden Autumn" (in memory of the former rector of the university, Professor O. Mishukov), Sports Days, etc.
Every year on the occasion of the International Student Day, the best students of the faculty are awarded diplomas of the KSU Rectorate for outstanding academic achievements, active scientific and social work.
The organic combination of education and upbringing at the university and in particular at the faculty provides training of highly qualified specialists, harmoniously developed, highly educated, socially active and nationally conscious youth, endowed with deep civic responsibility, high spiritual qualities, family and patriotic feelings. culture.
Our graduates hold positions of teachers in various educational institutions, translators in the OSCE Office, in many offices of well-known companies, banking institutions and other institutions, work as editors-translators in the media of Ukraine. The best graduates of the Faculty of Foreign Philology join the scientific and pedagogical staff of Kherson State University.
