The youngest department of the faculty – Vocal and Choral disciplines opened on September 1, 2002. Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Gunko Natalia, heads it. The basis of the department is its task – of vocal, choral and methodical training of a music teacher of secondary school. The main directions of scientific and educational-methodical work of the members of the department are:

development of vocal and conductor-choral culture of student youth;

expanding the professional outlook of future music teachers;

preparing students for the tasks of aesthetic education of students.
The teaching and educational process at the department are provided by 11 teachers and concertmasters: among them are People's Artists of Ukraine Professor Shirinsky H.G. and Associate Professor Leleco N.V., Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor - Gunko N.O., Assistant Professor, Honored Artist of Ukraine Gurba V.T.; Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, Senior Lecturer Ponomarev O.M.; senior teachers Zimovets Y.M., Yurchenko N.I.; Leading concertmaster Kiselnikova I.M., concertmasters Vinaminova S.A., Odrzehovskaya O.Y., Razsujdaj O.A. Teachers of the department provide students with the following subjects: choral class and practicum of choir management, choralarranging, conducting and reading scores, conducting skills, chamber singing, vocal art, vocal skills, special musical instrument, ensembles, methods of teaching specialties, methods of teaching music disciplines in higher education institutions, teaching methods in the specialty: vocal-choral art, management of chamber groups , modern information technology in music. Scientific and methodological activity of the members of the department is aimed at the preparation of textbooks, methodical recommendations: conducting, voice, choral arrangement, teaching methods of music, etc. In addition to teaching activities, the teachers of the department carry out quite fruitful cultural and educational work. Several creative laboratories of vocal and choral direction have been created on the basis of the department:

student choir (headed by N.I. Yurchenko);

jazz vocal ensemble (headed by Ponomaryov O.M.);

folklore vocal ensemble (headed by Potuzhnya A.M.)
These teams are actively involved in the creative activities of the faculty, the university and the city.Every spring, the department hosts the All-Ukrainian Festival-Competition of Vocal-Choral Art “Maestoso”, which includes choral groups and vocal-choral ensembles of schools, music colleges, music schools of the region, as well as solo performers.
