Main scientific interests:
1) Common mother tongue issues in schools of different types and universities; problems of content, forms, methods and means of teaching, linguistics of higher education;
2) Practical stylistics, linguistics, speech culture, psycholinguistics.
After working at the school for several years since 1965, she started working at the Ukrainian language department.
From 1974 to 1984 and from 1994 to 1997 she headed the department of Ukrainian language, and from 1997 to 2002 - the department of Ukrainian linguistics, formed as a result of the division of one department into two.
The Department of Linguistics has postgraduate courses, doctoral and magistracy. M.I. Pentylyuk supervises the scientific work of 4 graduate students, 5 doctoral students, 3 applicants. About 30 theses have been defended, 2 of them are doctoral ones, 4 theses have been prepared for defense.
Professor M.I. Pentylyuk published 40 scientific works, 37 of them are for the middle schools, pedagogical schools and higher educational establishments, a set of pidruchnikiv "Ukrainian Mova" for 5-9 classes was republished 6-7 times, pidruchnikiv "Ukrainian Mova" for pedagogical schools - 3 editions, 6 monographs (3 of them were published in co-author), 15 educational textbooks, 30 methodical textbooks for teachers and students, 14 programs for higher and comprehensive schools, scores of articles in the central and regional collections of scientific works.
Professor M.I. Pentilyuk together with her colleagues investigates the development of theoretical and methodical problems of linguodidactics, and under her guidance there were prepared the dissertations (26 candidates and 10 doctors); 1 - prepared for defense, 2 - at the stage of completion). Their themes are" Methods for the development of artistic style of studies of 5-7 classes", "The advances and prospects in the development of stylistics in 1-3 (4) and 5 classes", "Lexicostylistic analysis as a means of the development of the pupils of 5-7 classes», "The formation of dialogue speech of the pupils 1st-4th and 5th classes", "Linguodidactic preparation of a future teacher-philologist for work on the formation of the official speech of pupils in the comprehensive schools" etc. The scientific topics: "The culture of interaction of the future teacher of the language under conditions of Ukrainian – Russians bilinguism", "Methods of linguistic analysis in 5-7 classes", "The improvement of culture of interaction of students in the natural profile" in particular. O.M.Goroshkina and I.P.Drozdova, defended Doctor Dissertations, A.V.Nikitina and L.I.Mamchur are going to defend.
The teachers of the chairs of linguistics, philology of the pedagogical faculty, the chairs of Ukrainian language of Mykolayiv University, Agrarian University and analyze the scientific researches of methodical school of professor M.I. Pentylyuk.
The scientists of higher educational establishments of Ukraine are involved in to creation of scientific and methodical literature.
For the initiative of Prof. M.I. Pentilyuk at the end of 2001 Microdepartment Sciences laboratory was established by the title «Technology of the state's preparation in the light bookmarks of the Pivdenno-Oshodno-Region of Ukraine", which is a main contribution to the scientific profile of the Department and expands the interaction between the school of science and the organizer. The Crimean Department of Cognostic Studies (Head of the Department of Philosophy and Doctoral Studies), from its laboratory, takes part in postgraduate studies. At the base of the laboratory prepared 1 doctorate and 6 candidate dissertations.
M.I.Pentylyuk spends a huge amount of work in the city and Kherson region. She is an active propagandist of ideas of revival of the Ukrainian powers, upbringing of young generation, real patriots of Ukraine. The results of M.I.Pentylyuk's scientific activity are recognized by the Ukrainian government. She is awarded by the state medals of Ukraine such as “Veteran of labor” and others, different diplomas and certificates and premiums on the state level.
She got a honorary title “Honored Worker of Science and Technique of Ukraine” in 2006.
