Career guidance work in the 2018-2019 academic year

The 2018-2019 academic year was memorable for the productive communication between representatives of the Ukrainian Language Department and talented, purposeful, creative, modern high school students of Kherson region. Those who are in love with the Ukrainian word were told about various majors and specializations of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism. Those who have not yet decided on their professional choice were helped to find the best option, given numerous examples of our successful graduates, and told about the prospects for children to realize their potential and find successful employment in the future.

Under the guidance of the head of the department Svitlana Klymovych, career guidance talks were organized with the winners of the competition for the defense of scientific works of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition, who came to Kherson with their teachers for the next stages of the competition. These gifted children are those who have already demonstrated a high level of training and, most importantly, a serious desire to study the Ukrainian language and literature through their work and achievements, so we are looking forward to seeing them in the new school year! We also talked to teachers and handed over booklets with relevant information to their students, who may also be interested in philology. It's nice that most of the mentors are graduates of our faculty of different years, so they confirmed to their students by their own example the words about the benefits of studying at Kherson State University.

The face-to-face meetings with future applicants in Henichesk, Beryslav and Chaplynka, which were attended by senior laboratory assistant Tamara Mandych, were especially warm. In two schools in Oleshky, Associate Professor Valentyna Tikhosha was a guest at the lessons. Dozens of students in grades 9-11 listened attentively to information about all the faculties of the best higher education institution in southern Ukraine, including the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism.

Similar talks were held in 4 other secondary schools in Kherson by associate professors of the Ukrainian Language Department Svitlana Klymovych, Olena Karabuta, Svitlana Martos and teacher Liubov Vlasenko.

Modern technologies, fortunately, allow us to communicate with children from remote settlements. Tamara Mandych, a senior laboratory assistant, regularly attends Skype meetings of KSU Speech, which take place in the new conference halls of KSU.

Undoubtedly, our representatives take part in university-wide Open House events both in the main building and in the botanical garden. And within the framework of sociolinguistic practice under the guidance of Associate Professor Svitlana Martos and within the educational work of curators, events (questionnaires, surveys, flash mobs) have been implemented, during which there is direct communication between students and students, when future philologists prove their professionalism and positive attitude to learning not only in word but also in deed!

And, of course, publishing activity on Facebook and Instagram, as well as the newly created departmental project "PhiloVLOGia" with an online YouTube page, shows the vibrant student, scientific and creative life at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism and Kherson State University in general!

Well, all applicants have to do is to set a priority #1 :)
