The professor of the department held an open lecture for future applicants and all interested parties

On May 12, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Analysis Oleksandr Grigoryovych Savchenko held an open lecture on the topic "Non-elementary problems of elementary mathematics" for future applicants of the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Physics and Mathematics and everyone else.

Friday, May 12, 2023

During the lecture, an overview of open problems of mathematics, the formulation of which is possible only in terms of elementary mathematics, was presented.

The listeners were introduced to revolutionary breakthroughs in mathematics, which became possible thanks to the combination of powerful mathematical apparatus and modern computer technology. These are Kepler's problem of the densest packing of spheres in 1611, Goldbach's ternary hypothesis in 1742, and the problem of four forbs in 1852.

The listeners were particularly interested in the task of placing (packing) medallion chocolates in a rectangular box as tightly as possible and the currently unsolved task of finding the maximum area of a sofa that can be moved in an L-shaped corridor.

Therefore, we are waiting for our applicants already as students on interesting special courses within the walls of FCNFM.
