Yevhen Petukhov (July 20, 1925 – February 28, 1989) was the first Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences in Kherson region, a professor, and the head of the Department of Pedagogy at Kherson State Pedagogical Institute(1972-1985 рр.).
Yevhen began working at Kherson State Pedagogical Institute in 1965 as a lecturer, senior lecturer, and associate professor at the Department of Pedagogy. He taught pedagogy at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. In 1970, he founded the "Young Teacher" school and headed the preparatory department of the institute.
In 1986, Yevhen Petukhov defended his doctoral dissertation titled "Pedagogical Foundations for Preventing Deviations in the Moral Development and Behavior of Schoolchildren." In 1988, he was awarded the title of professor. His active research and teaching career made him a prominent scholar in the field of education for “difficult” adolescents. More than 130 of his publications focused on issues of moral education. His contributions to the development of theories and practices for the re-education of young people are particularly noteworthy. His findings and recommendations in this area remain relevant today.
Yevhen Petukhov was a distinguished scholar and the founder of modern social pedagogy in Kherson. He devoted significant attention to the work of school teaching staff with parents. His works, including "Working with Parents," "Pedagogical Education for Parents at Enterprises," and "Organization and Planning of Work with Parents," addressed these issues. Yevhen Petukhov maintained connections between the institute and schools. He successfully managed this work, as he combined his research activities with providing creative and practical assistance to schools in the region and the city. He engaged many teachers and school administrators in scientific research.
Yevhen also took care of the high-quality training of future teachers for work in schools. His scholarly works on the organization of pedagogical practice in schools deserve special attention.
Yevhen Petukhov was awarded the title of Excellence in Public Education of Ukraine and Excellence in Higher Education, was a recipient of military orders and medals, and received the N. K. Krupskaya Medal, the A. S. Makarenko Medal, and the 'Veteran of Labor' Medal.
