Bachelor's thesis defense held
On June 19, within the framework of the certification of applicants for the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, the defense of qualification works (projects) took place.
Applicants demonstrated a high level of theoretical and scientific and practical training. Among the positive achievements, it is necessary to note the relevance of the topics of qualification works, their theoretical and practical value, the involvement of a sufficient amount of scientific literature and historical sources, the use of modern research methods. During the public defense, applicants presented the results of their research concisely and logically, provided deep and correct answers to the questions of the examination committee members, and successfully used technical means for presentation. The best works were recognized as the research of Vdovichenko Daria (scientific supervisor Mykhailenko G.M.) and Mosina Sofia (scientific supervisor Cheremisin O.V.).

Сertification of bachelors has begun
Today, within the framework of the Certification of Applicants of the First (Bachelor's) Level of Higher Education, in the specialty 014 Secondary Education, specialization 014.03 History, a written certification exam in professional disciplines was held. At the beginning of the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty, Iryna Vasylivna Shaposhnykova, greeted all those present, wishing the applicants and the commission success and fruitful work. The meeting was chaired by the Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines and Innovative Pedagogy of the Kherson State Maritime Academy, Bezlutska Olena Petrivna. Deputy Head of the Certification Commission, Head of the Department Natalya Mykolaivna Kuzovova familiarized the applicants with the procedure for conducting the certification exam.

The head of the department met with lyceum students
Today, as part of career guidance work, the head of the department, Natalia Kuzovova, met with lyceum students of Kherson Lyceum No. 57 of the Kherson City Council. Natalia Mykolayivna told the students about the history of the streets of Kherson. She introduced the students in more detail to the history of the construction of the Kherson Theater and the stairs that once led to it, as well as the lost Pokrovsk monotheistic church. The lyceum students listened with delight about the history of their native city.

The presentation of the guide "Released Map. Guide to New Geonyms of the Kherson Region" took place
As part of the celebration of the All-Ukrainian Day of Local History, an event was held at the “Evening of History with Honcharivka” that united everyone who is interested in the history of their native Kherson region. The event included a presentation of a unique reference publication – “The Liberated Map. Directory of New Geonyms of the Kherson Community”.
The head of the department, Natalia Kuzovova, during her report focused on the analysis of gender balance in urban toponyms. Today, only 6.7% of Kherson streets are named after women. Despite this, there is a gradual increase in the number of such names - from eight to eleven, which is a step forward. Ms. Natalia also raised the topic of memory politics, which is reflected in the names of urban space.

Kherson celebrated the All-Ukrainian Day of Local History
Every year on May 28, the All-Ukrainian Day of Local History is celebrated. This event was preceded by a meeting initiated by the Kherson Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Oles Honchar, dedicated to the presentation of the guidebook “Kherson: Liberated Map”. The event brought together leading local historians of Kherson and everyone who is interested in the history of the Kherson region. The head of the department, Natalia Kuzovova, who is a member of the editorial team of the publication, joined the event. Natalia Mykolayivna noted that the decolonization of the urban space of Kherson allowed to restore its Ukrainian face.

Dear friends!
We invite you to a special event - the presentation of a unique publication - the directory "Kherson: Liberated Map". This is a thorough work that summarizes the new geographical names of the Kherson urban community for 2023-2024.
The book contains official renamings, the historical context of the new names, as well as all the geonyms of the community with an indication of changes, dates and decisions.
The author team is well-known historians, sociologists and local lore experts: Dementiy Bily, Mykola Homanyuk, Serhiy Dyachenko, Natalya Kuzovova, Oleksiy Makiyenko, Vadym Yarovy.
The design was developed by Maksym Afanasiev.
The electronic version of the directory is available for free on the website khersonmemory.info.

The 8th All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference was held
As part of the Days of Science at KhSU, the VIII All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Scientists, Postgraduate Students and Students took place today: "Current Problems of History and Archaeology: Regional and Global Dimensions". The participants were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, History and Sociology, Iryna Shaposhnykova, who wished them fruitful work and interesting discussions. The event was moderated by the Head of the Department of History, Archeology and Teaching Methods, Natalia Kuzovova.

The professor of the department joined the work of the Symposium
On May 22-24, 2025, Professor of the Department Oleksandr Cheremisin took part in the Symposium "The Most Documented War", which was held in Lviv. As part of the event, Oleksandr Viktorovych presented the project "Documentation of the Experiences of the Occupation of Kherson 2022", implemented through oral history.
"This approach allowed us to collect and publish personal testimonies of Kherson residents about their life and struggle in the conditions of a deeply dehumanized space of Russian occupation. The project became an important step in preserving memory, studying civil resistance, social, political and psychological aspects of the war, as well as in creating an archive for future generations!, - noted Oleksandr Cheremisin.

The professor of the department told Ukrainian Radio about the archaeological collection of the KhSU museum
Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department Oleksandr Viktorovich Cheremisin appeared on Ukrainian Radio today. A postgraduate student of the department took part in the 3rd season of the Postgraduate Lectureship
As part of the Days of Science at KhSU, the 3rd season of the Postgraduate Lecture Series was held on May 16. One of the speakers was a 2nd year postgraduate student in the specialty B9 History and Archaeology Dmytro Lysenko. The speaker presented an interesting and relevant topic: "Bolshevik Populism Regarding the Ukrainian Peasantry: Lessons for the Present." The discussion of this issue greatly interested the audience and sparked a lively discussion. Dmytro thanked those present for their interest in this topic and for the opportunity to understand which issues require deeper and more detailed study.

The professor of the department joined the work of the 13th All-Ukrainian Symposium on Agrarian History
On May 15, Professor of the Department Oleksandr Cheremisin joined the work of the XIII All-Ukrainian Symposium on Agrarian History, organized by the scientific community of the Cherkasy National University named after B. Khmelnytsky, which brought together researchers from different regions of the country.
As part of the event, Oleksandr Viktorovych presented a report and presentation of scientific research on the topic: "Peasantry of the Right-Bank Kherson Region during the Temporary Occupation in 2022."

The professor of the department gave a lecture for civil servants of Ivano-Frankivsk
Professor of the department, Oleksandr Cheremisin, took part in the advanced training event for officials and civil servants, which was held at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Advanced Training. As part of the event, Oleksandr Viktorovych gave a lecture on the topic: "The Political System of Ukraine: Current State and Development Prospects". Cooperation with Ivano-Frankivsk local governments
On May 2, at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Advanced Training, Professor of the Department Oleksandr Cheremisin, using distance learning technologies, gave lectures for local government officials and civil servants under the general short-term advanced training program "Deoccupation of Temporarily Occupied Territories in Historical Retrospect and in the Challenges of Modernizing Public Administration and Decentralization."
Among the issues considered were:
- the concept of integration and disintegration, war and deoccupation in historical retrospect and as a phenomenon of the 21st century;
- aspects of cultural, adaptive and psychological reintegration;
- career reintegration in the context of job search, education and work during war;
- family reintegration and adaptation during war;
- the influence of the community on reintegration and interaction with internally displaced persons;
- problems of integration of the deoccupied territories of Ukraine.

The presentation of the book "The Liberated Map. A Guide to New Geonyms of the Kherson Community" took place
The event was attended by the editorial team of the publication, reviewers, scientists, applicants and everyone who was interested in this project. The authors of the guide are Kherson historians, geographers and local historians Bilyi Dementiy, Serhiy Dyachenko, Vadym Yarovyi, as well as scientists from Kherson State University - Mykola Homanyuk, Natalia Kuzovova, Oleksiy Makiyenko.
During the meeting, they talked about the results of the renaming in Kherson, the future of Kherson toponymy and toponymic research. Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, History and Sociology Iryna Shaposhnikova, who is a member of the renaming commission, noted the importance of this publication. She also noted that the commission worked during the Russian occupation of Kherson.
