The Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work of KhSU organizes the 1st Regional Scientific and Practical Conference "Theory and Practice of Social Work: Experience, Current State, Strategies" for higher education students and young scientists, which is scheduled for December 3-4, 2024 in a remote format on the zoom platform (starting each day at 3:30 p.m.).

The purpose of the conference: creating a platform for discussing current issues and challenges in the field of social work; stimulating the interest of education students and young scientists in research in social work; exchanging ideas, experience and developments in the field of social work between education students and young scientists; discussing modern approaches and developing strategies that will contribute to the development of social work as a profession; developing an understanding of professional values, ethical standards and necessary competencies in the field of social work; discussion of new problems and trends facing the field of social work in the context of changes in society.

Thematic areas of the conference:

1. Organization of social work in martial law.

2. Social work with various categories of the needy population.

3. Promising directions of social work in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

4. Development of personality and professional skills of a social work specialist.

5. Innovative technologies of social work

The conference includes:

December 03, 2024 - opening of the conference and plenary session;

December 04, 2024 - sectional panel discussions (work in three sections: section No. 1 "Social work in martial law", section No. 2 "Professional workshop of a social work specialist", section No. 3 "Innovations and strategic prospects for the development of social work").

Young scientists, postgraduate students, applicants of various levels of higher education, scientists of higher education institutions are invited to participate.

    Participation of a student of specialty 231 (master's degree) in an international educational project

    04-08 August 2025, a student of the 2nd year of the second (master's) level of higher education in the specialty "Social Work" Dyatsenko Victoria took part in a series of trainings within the framework of the educational international project "Traumapädagogik für ukrainische Schulen" ("Trauma pedagogy for Ukrainian schools"), which was implemented in cooperation with public organizations "Dialogue for Understanding e.V." (Germany), "Educational Policy Development Agency" (Ukraine) with the support of the German Foreign Ministry and the Department of Education of Warsaw (Poland). The venue of the trainings is Warsaw (Republic of Poland).

    The purpose of the project activities was to train specialists of educational institutions and teachers in the forms and methods of trauma-informed pedagogy, to promote the implementation of interactive methodological developments in trauma-informed pedagogy to preserve mental health and form social, communicative competencies in students.

    The result of Dyatsenko V.’s participation in the above-mentioned activities within the project was receiving a certificate of advanced training (1 ECTS credit).

    Viktoriya Dyatsenko noted that the activities within the project were really interesting and useful. The participants received theoretical and practical knowledge about the importance of self-recovery and recovery resources (we considered a lot of situational cases of working with students and their parents during war and stress). The student confidently noted that the knowledge and practical skills she gained would be useful to her in her professional activities at an educational institution.

    PARTICIPATION IN THE WEBINAR

    On August 15, 2025, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work Shvets T.M. took part in the webinar “Psychology of Resilience: Practical Tools of Support in Wartime”, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the State Scientific Institution “Institute for Modernization of Educational Content and the National School of Managers - NGO “Agency for Sustainable Development and Educational Initiatives”.

    The purpose of the webinar: development and improvement of professional competencies of pedagogical and scientific and pedagogical workers, in particular:

     updating knowledge about key aspects of psychological resilience;

     integration of psychological support practices into daily professional activities;

     development of emotional self-regulation skills and individual stress resistance;

     improvement of management skills in conditions of increased psycho-emotional stress;

     preservation of mental health in conditions of war and social instability.

    During the webinar, special attention was paid to the use of knowledge in the daily work of leaders and teachers to support teams, students and parents, as well as to maintain their own mental health.

    As a result of participating in the webinar, Shvets T.M. received a certificate of advanced training (6 hours / 0.2 ECTS) with a description of the acquired competencies

    Participation in practical training

    On August 14, 2025, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work Shvets T.M. participated in the practical training "Psychological First Aid During and After War" as part of the advanced training course for educators "Psychological First Aid for Participants in the Educational Process During and After the End of Military Operations", organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the State Scientific Institution "Institute for Modernization of Educational Content", the Ukrainian Institute for the Development of Education, the Association for Innovative and Digital Education with the participation of leading international experts in psychology - head of the psychological service of Ariel University (Israel) Olga Bass-Linchuk and consultant in mental health and psychosocial support, trainer of the international short-session program SETA (Johns Hopkins Institute, a leading US educational institution in the field of clinical psychology), expert of the program "Suicide Prevention in Communities" (a project in cooperation with the Government of Norway) Yulia Zagarnytska.

    The advanced training course for educators “Psychological First Aid for Participants in the Educational Process During and After the End of Military Actions” was created to master the skills and techniques of psychological first aid and emotional support from international experts for use during the educational process.

    This course was developed using the blended learning model, which includes 10 multimedia lessons in the international SCORM format, additional materials, practical training, during which Ukrainian educators learned about psychological states, learned to provide psychological first aid according to Save the Children’s methodological manuals, and also got acquainted with the recommendations for referral of the Interdepartmental Standing Committee.

    The special course provided for solving the following tasks: determining the features of the educational process during military action; establishing the features of the regulatory and legal support of the educational process under martial law; understanding the etiology of stress and its impact on the educational process; the ability to identify manifestations of stress in a child; mastering the tools of psychological support for internally displaced students; development of skills of informal interaction with students; learning to use distance learning platforms; establishing cooperation between school and family during wartime.

    Practical training "Psychological First Aid During and After War" on the technique of determining the psychological state of children according to the world-famous "Save the Children" methodology, which has been confirmed both in Ukraine and in the world, was conducted by Yulia Zagarnytska, a psychologist, a consultant in mental health and psychosocial support, a trainer of the international short-session program SETA (Johns Hopkins Institute, a leading US educational institution in the field of clinical psychology), an expert of the program "Suicide Prevention in Communities" (a project in cooperation with the Norwegian government).

    Based on the results of participation in the webinar, Shvets T.M. received a certificate of advanced training (30 hours / 1 ECTS).

    International internship for department teachers

    In June 2025, the Academic Council of Kherson State University approved the results of the international internship of teachers of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work: Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Kostyuchkov S.K. and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Shvets T.M.

    The international internship took place from March 17 to April 18, 2025 as part of the International Spring School "Inclusion, Social Responsibility and Entrepreneurship. Social Innovations for Community Development and Youth Engagement" for students, applicants, young scientists, postgraduates, doctoral candidates, researchers, teachers, representatives of professional communities and civil society (Genoa (Italy) - Berlin (Germany) - Kyiv - Melitopol (Ukraine)).

    Event "Care Reform: Transformation of Social Services in Ukraine"

    On June 24, 2025, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work Shvets T.M. joined the event "Care Reform: Transformation of Social Services in Ukraine", organized by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.

    In response to the challenges caused by the full-scale war, internal displacement of Ukrainians, economic and demographic changes, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine began the transformation of the social services system. The achievements and future changes in the field were presented at the event "Care Reform: Transformation of Social Services in Ukraine".

    Participation in the forum "Days of Educational Leadership"

    On June 10-11, 2025, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work Shvets T.M. took part in the forum "Days of Educational Leadership", organized by the National University "Zaporizhzhya Polytechnic". The forum was held with the support of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, the National Qualifications Agency, the National Service of Ukraine for Civil Service Issues, the All-Ukrainian Association of Regional Employer Organizations of Enterprises of the Metallurgical Complex "Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine", and the NGO "Progressive".

    Forum topic: "University 2030: Education of the Future"

    The goal of the forum: to create a space for strategic dialogue and the formation of a common vision of the transformation of universities as active agents of social change that provide quality education, support innovation, contribute to the development of communities and respond to the challenges of the economy of the future.

    The forum aimed to unite the efforts of educators, business, government, and the civil sector to build new models of partnership, project interaction, and training specialists capable of operating in conditions of rapid change and uncertainty.

    Completion of the state final certification

    Today, June 18, 2025, the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work successfully completed the defense of qualification works within the framework of the state final certification of applicants for the first (bachelor's) level of higher education in the specialty 231 Social Work. The examination commission, consisting of the chairman of the commission Bely Dementiy Vasylyovych, deputy chairman, head of the department Professor Kostyuchkov Serhiy Karpovich, and associate professor Shvets Tetyana Mykhailivna, announced their results to the applicants. Summing up, the chairman of the state certification commission Bely Dementiy Vasylyovych noted the sufficiently high quality of the works, thematic diversity and practical orientation.

    We congratulate the members of the department on another graduation of specialists in the specialty 231 Social Work, and we congratulate the applicants on a new stage in life and wish them a promising future in invincible free Ukraine!

    State certification of applicants for the first (bachelor's) level of higher education in specialty 231 Social Work, full-time and part-time studies, has begun

    Today, June 17, 2025, at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Social Work, within the framework of the State Certification, a comprehensive certification exam began for applicants for the first (bachelor's) level of higher education in the specialty 231 Social Work of full-time and part-time study. The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Shaposhnykova Iryna Vasylivna, congratulated applicants and members of the commission on the start of the State Certification. The commission meeting was chaired by Bely Dementiy Vasylovich - Head of the Kherson Regional Public Organization of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine. All applicants successfully passed the state exam. We wish you success in defending your qualification papers.

    Participation in the event

    Students of the Social Work specialty and teachers of the department took part in the event as part of the All-Ukrainian program “How are you?” - an initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the purpose of which is to create an open space for dialogue between higher education institutions that train specialists in the field of psychology, social work and mental health, and practitioners who already implement psychosocial support services in communities.

    Congratulations to the winners!

    For the high-quality preparation of the winner of the II stage of the All-Ukrainian competition-defense of scientific and research works of students-members of the Small Academy of Sciences in the section "Sociology", associate professor of the department Cherkashina T.O. was awarded a diploma from the Department of Education and Science of the Kherson Regional State Administration. Cherkashina T.O. prepared a 10th grade student of the Kherson Scientific Lyceum of the Kherson Regional Council Fertak Ksenia to participate in the All-Ukrainian competition, where they took 1st place at the II stage and 3rd place at the III stage of defense of scientific and research works. We congratulate the winners and wish them further success in their scientific and research activities.
