HISTORY AND ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE OF KHERSON STATE UNIVERSITY
The formation of medical education at our university is a path of long-term transformation: from the teaching of individual disciplines at the faculty of natural sciences to the creation of a powerful autonomous unit.
|
1. Origins: the foundation of medical education (1970s)
The foundations of the future faculty were laid on the basis of natural sciences, where biological aspects of medicine were studied.
1971: creation of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology (on the basis of the Department of Zoology). It became the first scientific and educational center in the medical direction.

2. Transformation and Licensing (2010s)
A new era of the medical field began with a systemic reorganization and obtaining state guarantees of the quality of education.
April 25, 2018: the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Health was reorganized into the Department of Medicine and Physical Therapy. This was the official start of the formation of the medical profile of the university.
May 15, 2018: an important milestone - obtaining a license from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to train masters in specialty 222 "Medicine" with a licensed capacity of 150 people.
October 1, 2020: establishment of the Department of Medicine as part of the Faculty of Medicine of KhSU as an administrative unit.

3. Modern structure of the faculty
Thanks to the involvement of leading doctors and candidates of medical sciences, the university formed a full-fledged Faculty of Medicine.
Today it includes:
Department of Medicine;
Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy;
Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

4. Work in challenging conditions: the present
Despite the trials of war, the faculty has retained its potential and continues to develop.
Important: after the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the faculty, together with the university, was moved to Ivano-Frankivsk to the base of the Precarpathian National University named after V. Stefanyk.
Today, we successfully combine distance learning technologies, face-to-face weeks and intensive practical training of higher education applicants at leading clinical bases in various regions of Ukraine and the world.

From the establishment of the first laboratories in Kherson to work at the Precarpathian University, each stage of our history has tempered the faculty team. The relocation in 2022 was an impetus for rethinking the educational process. Today we present the Development Strategy - a clear plan for modernization, scientific growth, and the introduction of advanced simulation technologies that will ensure the unsurpassed quality of training for our students.
|
| Key areas of the Development Strategy of the Faculty of Medicine of Kherson State University |
1. Development of a mobile simulation center using AI
Creating your own simulation center is critical for:
• practicing practical skills (resuscitation, intubation, injections) on modern mannequins and simulators without risk to patients.
• ensuring high-quality preparation for the USQE exams (KROK and OSCE) using a video surveillance system and checklists.
• implementing artificial intelligence technologies to simulate realistic clinical scenarios.
|
|
2. Formation of a unique niche: aesthetic telemedicine
It is planned to study methods of natural rejuvenation based on the restoration of tissue functions, posture and statics of the neck.
The goal is to create an educational course for specialists ready to work remotely, using the global trend for health improvement.
This direction integrates the efforts of the departments of physical therapy, medicine and chemistry and pharmacy.
|
|
3. Strengthening the scientific component and international grant activities
To overcome the consequences of the loss of the laboratory base, the strategy provides for:
• the creation of joint laboratories at the V. Stefanyk PNU and the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.
• submitting applications for international grants (up to €1.34 million) to develop innovative capabilities.
• focusing on current research: rehabilitation of military personnel and IDPs, medical psychology, and problems of pharmacy in wartime.
|
4. Modernization of practical training in evacuation conditions
Due to the impossibility of using Kherson hospitals, the faculty is expanding its network of partners:
• concluding new agreements with regional hospitals, rehabilitation centers and pharmacy chains in Ivano-Frankivsk.
• organizing training cycles in military hospitals and implementing interuniversity mobility programs.
• creating its own database of video materials and a library of interactive simulations for remote support of practical classes.
|
|
5. Improving the quality of the USQE (Unified State Qualification Exam) results and English-language transformation
To successfully pass the state exam, a set of measures is being implemented:
• development of a special course "Strategy for USQE preparation" and regular conduct of mock tests that simulate real conditions.
• introduction of a special course "Medical English" and teaching key subjects partially in English.
• use of international platforms (Medscape, Physiopedia, Lecturio) for access to the most up-to-date medical information.
