The modern understanding of research activities of students in the educational process is implemented in the Department of Special Education through interrelated components such as familiarization with the specifics of research work, the acquisition of research skills by students, and the direct conduct of scientific research under the guidance of the department's faculty members.
The research activities of students include mastering the fundamentals of research work, particularly understanding science as a phenomenon, the methodology of scientific research, and the effective organization of scientific inquiries. This also involves independent work with sources, analysis of experimental results, and other related aspects. Research activity represents a combination of approaches and methods aimed at developing creative thinking in future specialists in special education, mastering theoretical material, and acquiring practical research competencies. Integrating scientific research into the educational process significantly enhances the acquisition of both general and specialized competencies, improves the qualification level of future professionals, and broadens their practical outlook in accordance with modern trends in special and inclusive education.
At the Department of Special Education, under the guidance of highly qualified methodologists, student research groups operate, focusing on relevant areas in speech therapy, correctional psycho-pedagogy, and inclusive education.

An important aspect of student research activities is participation in the All-Ukrainian Student Research Competition. For the second consecutive year, students from the department have participated in the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Research Competition on Social and Economic Inclusion, hosted by Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.
In 2024, fourth-year student Kateryna Radionova won first place in this competition (scientific supervisors – N.V. Kabelnikova and V.V. Melikhova). She successfully conducted and brilliantly presented her research on the topic: "The Impact of a Bilingual Environment on the Emergence of Speech Development Disorders in Children from Families of Forced Migrants."
