History of the Department

In 1971, the Ministry of education of the USSR No. 548-19.05.1971 years and the Academic Council of Kherson state pedagogical Institute. N. To.Krupskaya, on the first of September 1971, established the Department of anatomy and physiology on the basis of the Department of Zoology HGPI N. To.Krupskaya. The first head was Phd of biological Sciences, associate professor Lukatskiy Rem Aleksandrovich. The Department has only five teachers.

Faculty of Natural which includes the Department, was preparing students from 2 professions – chemists-biologists and biologists with bases of agriculture and the Department in addition to the core subjects (human anatomy, human physiology and animals histology and Cytology) were laid such discipline as bases of animal husbandry.

On the old campus which situated on the Perekopska street was created the Vivarium with laboratory animals. At that time staff of the Department was united by a common idea, a total scientific task: searched the criteria of evaluation and ways to ensure the vitality of the digestive system. In electrophisiology laboratories worked with interested teachers and students. The experiments were conducted out on dogs, cats, rabbits and therefore established the large vivarium. The number of dogs was varied from 10 to 25. Research materials were published in allied and national publications, included in the academic "Manual of physiology" (Physiology of digestion) — L. Science 1976. At that time the Department grew and increased the number of employees, personnel potential. In 1973 the Department came Kosheleva, V. D., Yashin N. B.

In 1975 the post of associate professor were enrolled PhD BI Kubatko. The Department has two surgeons (resident), who also took part in the research work. Operating unit, which at that time met all the requirements, was located in the basement of the building, where often came students to have at least one eye to look into the "Holy of holies". In the same year defended his Ph. D. thesis Z. L. Utosova. On the Department worked 5 PhD of Natural Sciences. On doctoral dissertation was working head of the Department G. A. Lukatsky, under his leadership, wrote candidate's dissertation Novoselova I. A. and surgeon E. L. Plotkin.

The Department actively cooperates with the Odessa University, Kiev Institute of thoracic surgery and tuberculosis, Kiev Institute of physiology.

Accordingly, updated scientific searches: the beginning to form the direction of the functional assessment of the human condition in the working conditions and load. It was aheaded by a specialist in the physiology of labor. B. I. Kubatko.

In 1978, the Department with the faculty of natural Sciences was transferred to the new building. Their material base was improved. Time and resources were invested into technical equipment of the experiments and the learning process: the establishment of the operating premises with remote TV surveillance. Successfully developed the methods of teaching, methods of production of corrosion anatomic preparations was received all-Union recognition which was proposed by Lukatsky, G. A. and G. V. Dovganich (head of the Department of the medical College, Kherson).

At the Department of anatomy and physiology are constantly working scientific student circle, which came to freshmen and graduate students with great interest. The Department worked hard. There were funny cases. Once, having heard that the Department of small animals needed for experiments, came to my little old dog and for a small amount of money, and left him, especially because he, as she said, "breathe and don't eat." The dog was taken for the experiment, was operated. Then they made a sharp Savart and recorded all the necessary data (the potentials). After some time, the experience stopped, removed the ligature, the wound stitched up and in case conducted concomitant therapy. The dog recovered completely and began to eat. Then he received a new name, and lived long on the Department, walking to classrooms and lecture halls.

Since 1978 to 1982 head of the Department was Phd, associate Professor Kubatko.

In these years is also improving morphology group of the Department.

So, in 1979-80 G. courses of Cytology and Biophysics, taught by Professor S. S. Romanov. Since 1981, on the Department begins to work the graduate of the Moscow state University M. M. Sidorovich, her cytometric studies culminated in the awarding the degree of the Doctor of Phylosophy.

Since 1982 to 1986 the Department was headed by Professor, MD G. T. Boyko. Thanks to his efforts began neuroendocrine histological experiments and improved methodological support of the educational process. Re-launched the vivarium, care which provides senior laboratory assistant Chernenko N. A. since 1985 Led of G. T. Boyko increase in the number of dissertations, and V. D. Kosheleva defended her thesis.

At the same time formed a group of electrophysiological studies in the composition of graduates of HGPI, PhD. S. V. Shmalei and V. A. Marchenko. The following years marked the renewal of the composition of the Department (Z. I. Lavska, E. P. Zaporozhets, A. B. Sprin, E. P. Kurdelchuk, V. I. Litvinenko, M. V. Butanese, O. V.Shvedova), growth of qualification and teaching performance of the Department, the development of contractual works, in particular, prevention of cardiovascular diseases for industrial associations, a successful defense of diploma works by students.

 In 1996 in the Department of anatomy and physiology of humans and animals was united with the faculty of medical-pedagogical disciplines. The Department was renamed the Department of anatomy, physiology and valeology. Since 1999 was renamed the Department of human biology, and since 2002 was renamed the Department of physiology of man and animals.

Since 2001, the head of the Department was elected associate Professor V. D. Kosheleva.

She continues to develop morphological studies on "The Influence of cytotoxic drugs on the endocrine system of animals with transplanted carcinosarcoma Walker 256 ". The research was conducted at the Department of physiology of man and animals and the Kyiv Institute of Oncology and rehabilitation, and Department of Cytology histology of the Kiev national University.

 Since 2004 to 2012 the Department was headed by Professor S. V. Shmalei.

In 2013 the Department was renamed the Department of human biology and immunology.

Since 2013 head of the Department is associate Professor Elena Gasyuk.

Today the Department is connected with intensive educational process, development of new academic disciplines, focused studies of neurohumoral mechanisms of regulation of human body activity, evaluation of the functional state of persons with special needs and etc. The Department staff initiated an investigation of changes in the immune system of humans and white mice under the influence of various factors. They initiated research in the field of cytoecology and study autoimmune processes in the nervous system.

For 40 years of employees has done good work has. On the Department increased scientific potential, developed educational material, research and methodological base, which are qualitatively used in the process of teaching the specialists-biologists on a high level. The Department is 80% staffed by graduates of our University.
