Research activities of the Chemistry and Pharmacy Department are leading in accordance to topics that are complex, in most cases.
The department’s lecturers leads of researches on such topics:
1. Synthesis and research of biologically active substances.
2. Ecological problems of today and environmental monitoring.
3. Biotechnology.
4. Research and substantive-methodological support of the teaching chemistry process in general and
higher educational establishments.
5. Modern resource-saving and environmentally friendly processes and technologies.
6. Analysis, synthesis and biological activity of drugs.
There are 4 problem groups at the Chemistry and Pharmacy Department of the Medical Faculty Kherson State University:
– «Analysis, synthesis and biological activity of medicines» (heads Prof. Bliznyuk V.M., Assoc. Prof. Rechytsky O.N., Sen. Lect. Baev O.O.);
– «Ecological monitoring of the environment and research of new balneological resources of Ukraine» (Assoc. Prof. Popovich T.A., Assoc. Prof. Ryabinina G.O.);
– «Research and content-methodological support of the teaching chemistry process in general and higher education institutions» (heads Assoc. Prof. Ivanishchuk S.M., Assoc. Prof. Vishnevskaya L.V.);
– «Modern resource-saving technologies and analytical quality control of foodstuffs and medicines» (Assoc. Prof. Pilipchuk L.L., Assoc. Prof. Reshnova S.F.).
There are two research laboratories at the Chemistry and Pharmacy Department: the Synthesis of Bioactive Compounds Laboratory and the Analytical Control Laboratory.
The Synthesis of Biologically Active Compounds Laboratory
The department has a research laboratory «Synthesis of biologically active compounds» (scientific supervisor Assoc. Prof. Rechitsky O.N.), which synthesize of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds with biological activity.
The study of the obtained substances properties showed that most of them have high biological activity and can be used in various fields of economic activity. A deep study of the obtained preparations at different biological objects of animal and vegetable origin shows that most of the drugs strengthening the body's immune system at the cellular level and increasing the resistance of biological objects to various types of stress and negative environmental influences.
The Analytical Control Laboratory
The laboratory carries out measurements in the field of environmental control and analytical control over the return waters composition of the city sewer network from industrial enterprises and organizations of Kherson. The object of research of the laboratory in the field of environmental control is wastewater (return) water.
The research is carrying out by the agreement between the management of the university and the private joint-stock company " Chaplynskyi maslosyrzavod " (state registration number No. 3-2/2019-24/02vgd from 20.02.2019 and No. 3/2020-19/02vgd from 05.02.2020)
The purpose of the study is monitoring of the wastewater composition of Kherson enterprises in the city sewage system and promoting of the environmental improvement in the region.
The laboratory works according to standardized methods. The laboratory controls in the return water of:
- pollutants concentrations;
- physico-chemical parameters.
Methods of the 28 pollution types determination (salts of heavy metals, phenols, petroleum products) have been worked out and certified. The laboratory is provided with facilities, measuring equipment, test equipment, chemical reagents and materials. The laboratory also monitoring the dynamics of chemical composition of the Dnieper River district water in the Kherson, and publishing this information on television, radio, and in the local press. In the areas of these studies, the department has concluded agreements on scientific cooperation with the fluoroorganic compounds department and the medical and biological research laboratory of the Organic Chemistry Institute of the Ukraine NAS (Kyiv), the Biochemistry Department of the Lviv National University, the Agrochemistry Department of Mykolaiv State Agrarian University, Nanotechnology Laboratory of Kherson State Maritime Institute.
The research work of the department is presented in scientific articles, reports at scientific and scientific-practical conferences.
Teachers of the Chemistry and Pharmacy Department received 8 patents: 5 of which – for the development of a coating composition for decoration of special and general purpose fibrous materials (acid-protecting treatment, water-repellent, anti-shrinkage) and 3 – for the development of a method of different nature fibrous materials processing.
The Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy organized and held III, IV, V and VI All-Ukrainian conferences "Theory and Practice of Modern Natural Science" (2007, 2009, 2011, 2017), which resulted in the publication of scientific collections lecturers, scientists, graduate students and students.
Activity of scientific laboratories and problem groups allows to optimize the process of preparation of final and course works, student scientific work and constant deepening of own scientific researches by the teaching staff of the departments taking into account the modern priorities of world and national chemical theory and practice.
