For many years the department has been fruitfully working on the following scientific topics of the department:
- Ways to Improve Foreign Language Teacher Training for Different Types of Schools.
- The Typology and Functioning of Units of Phonetic, Grammatical and Lexical Systems of Modern German: Communicative and Pragmatic Aspects.
The result of this work includes the participation of teachers in International, All-Ukrainian and Regional scientific-practical conferences, the publication of monographs, teaching aids, articles and abstracts.
In 2016 the department registered an initiative theme Functional-Pragmatic, Cognitive-Discursive, Linguocultural Aspects of The Study of Linguistic and Speech Units of Modern German (state registration number 0116U008711), which the department has been researching for three consecutive years.
The theme Functional-Pragmatic, Cognitive-Discursive, Linguocultural Aspects of The Study of Linguistic and Speech Units of Modern German (state registration number 0116U008711) is one of the relevant topics in modern German studies.
The staff of the Department of German and Romance Philology at Kherson State University develops this topic in various applied aspects: genre-style, compositional-narrative, as well as aspects of cognitive linguistics and linguoculture, paying special attention to the modern-day creators of modern language. The department staff investigated the use of linguistic units in artistic German-speaking discourse, paying attention to contemporary poetic discourse, as well as the development of the lexicon of modern German, namely, innovative processes.
In 2018, at the Department of German and Romance Philology, the First All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Language. Society. Culture” took place, which was attended by staff of the Department, Faculty of Foreign Philology at Kherson State University, as well as the scientists from different educational institutions of Ukraine. The papers of the conference participants were published in the Kherson State University Scientific Bulletin, Linguistics Series, Issue 34.
In May 2019, namely on 13th May, the department held a scientific-practical seminar, Vectors of Modern Linguistic Research, on the Day of Science, which consisted of 2 sections, in particular, "Actual Problems of Germanic Studies" and "Contemporary Studies in the Field of Romanic Languages". The undergraduates and graduates of the department took part in it.
In addition, the department works with a scientific association of students of the Faculty of Foreign and Ukrainian Philology and Journalism (students in the 3rd and 4th year of education) Structural-Semantic, Linguocultural and Cognitive-Discursive Aspects of the Study of Linguistic and Speech Units of Modern German Language under the supervision of S.M. Soldatova.
The scientific theme Functional-Pragmatic, Cognitive-Discursive, Linguocultural Aspects of The Study of Linguistic and Speech Units of Modern German plays an important role in the professional training of modern philologists since it envisages the coverage of various aspects of language and the units of modern German in different types of discourse.
The study of the topic is closely linked to the scientific and methodological preparation of future philologists and teachers of German language and literature, as it contributes to deepening the students' knowledge about the development of the lexicon of modern German.
The scientific theme Functional-Pragmatic, Cognitive-Discursive, Linguocultural Aspects of The Study of Linguistic and Speech Units of Modern German (state registration number 0116U008711) is an inexhaustible object of study and therefore deserves further research.

The department has two student associations: Structural-Semantic, Linguocultural and Cognitive-Discursive Aspects of The Study of Language and Speech Units of Modern German Language, the supervisor of which is Candidate of Philological Science, Associate Professor S.M. Soldatova and Functional, Semantic, Communicative-Pragmatic and Socio-Cultural Aspects of Romanic Languages in Synchrony and Diachrony, supervised by Candidate of Philological Science, Senior Lecturer I.I. Yermolenko. More than 70 students (2019-2020) are involved in the research.
Later, a new department initiative theme was approved by report No. 8 dated April 2021 (state registration number 0121U110816 dated 04/26/2021) Structural-Semantic and Communicative-Discursive Aspects of Studying Language-Speech Units of German and Romance Languages
During 2021 and 2022 years more than 30 students are involved in the work of the students’ association Functional-Semantic, Cognitive, Communicatively Pragmatic and Socio-Cultural Aspects of the Study of German and Romance Languages in Synchrony and Diachrony working at the department under the supervision of Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor S.M. Soldatova and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Teacher I.I.Yermolenko.
In November 2019 (minutes of the meeting of the department 3a from 11.11.2019), a new initiative theme of the department "Communicative structural-semantic and discursive aspects of the study of linguistic units of modern German and Romance languages" was approved. The staff of the Department of German and Romanic Philology will be involved in the development of this theme.
