REPORT
ABOUT THE WORK OF THE STUDENT SCIENTIFIC ASSOCIATION
"Intercultural and linguistic aspects of learning English
students of non-philology majors"
for 2023/2024

Head: Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleh Mishukov Alla Vorobyova

The main tasks of the scientific association are:
1. formation of conditions for revealing the scientific and creative potential of students;
2. assistance in ensuring in-depth study and mastering of the disciplines "Foreign language (for professional purposes)", "Business foreign language";
3. mastering modern methods and skills for conducting independent scientific research;
4. mastering the forms of organization and conducting scientific research;
5. promotion of the development of inter-university cooperation among students.

The work of the Student Scientific Association included group and individual work.
Questions that were brought up for discussion are:
1. English borrowings in the terminological system of modern Ukrainian science.
2. Specifics of translation of medical and legal terminology.
3. Peculiarities and difficulties of translating medical abbreviations.
4. Lexical-semantic analysis and classification of errors when translating texts by speciality.
5. Peculiarities of translation of tourism and restaurant-hotel industry terms in economic texts.
6. English and Ukrainian phraseological units with somatism components.
7. Legal terminology in modern English: origin and usage.
8. Peculiarities of translating legal terms from the English language.
9. Content analysis of the thematic content of the speeches of famous lawyers in England and the USA.

Participation in the conference:
The materials of the report of the student Victoria Maryshchukova at the 15th Ukrainian Student Scientific and Practical Conference "Foreign Languages in the Modern Communicative Space", which was held on 4-5 April 2024 at the Faculty of International Economic Relations, Management and Business of the Kherson National Technical University, were presented.
