The team from Kherson State University has joined the training as part of the DigiUni project.

Representatives of Kherson State University continue to attend training workshops as part of the international EU Erasmus+ program project "Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative" (DigiUni). From July 21 to 25, the fourth training session is being held at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH) and the Technical Information Library (TIB) in Hanover, Germany. This session has brought together over 40 representatives from 10 partner Ukrainian universities, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ukrainian Association of IT Professionals.

Kherson State University is represented at the training by Vice-Rector Maksym Vynnyk, Professor Vitalii Kobets, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law Kateryna Melnikova, and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Arts Nataliya Tereshchenko.

On the first day, participants engaged in introductions and networking, followed by lectures and workshops starting on Monday. The first day focused on open science and open educational resources. Professor Sören Auer, Director of the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB), showcased Germany's largest technical library, staffed by 600 professionals from over 30 countries, including Ukraine. The library holds 9.9 million print and electronic media units and 6,200 subscribed journals. Professor Auer presented a revolutionary cognitive knowledge graph approach that addresses the "black box" problem of neural networks, making results transparent and easy to interpret. This approach underpins the Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG) service, which processes 76 million articles to answer research questions.

The next open educational resource introduced was eDoer, a free, high-quality, universal, and user-friendly tool for creating courses using artificial intelligence recommendations.

Sven Stübel, the owner of TIB’s AV-Portal product, introduced a platform providing open access to over 45,000 scientific videos. This platform allows scientific video content to receive DOIs, enabling citation in scientific publications and educational resources. The videos are available in various languages, including Ukrainian, making them particularly valuable for our audience.

Also presented was the Twillo platform, an open educational resource (OER) portal for university teaching, and the OERSI search engine, which contains over 85,000 results in nine languages. These resources are accessible for expansion on GitHub, allowing anyone to create new open educational materials.

The first day of the workshop showcased best practices in using open electronic educational resources to enhance educational potential and research in Ukrainian universities. Kherson State University is actively implementing its own digital learning environments and open educational resources for participants in the educational process, adopting best practices from EU partner universities within the ERASMUS+ program.

Upcoming in the program are presentations, introductions to digital platforms and resources that facilitate and administer the educational process. Additionally, the program will feature the Artificial Intelligence Academy and an overview of research in video learning. Specific days will be dedicated to further education and inclusion in education, as well as inter-university digital initiatives at the federal level.

Kherson State University representatives expressed their gratitude to the team at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH) and the Technical Information Library (TIB) for the opportunity to learn about the best digital practices to implement in Ukraine.
