On January 13, within the framework of the Erasmus+ BURN project – "Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-) War Ukrainian Nation", representatives of the Department of Psychology at Kherson State University, together with Ukrainian partners, began their training at the Winter School.

The training aims to prepare specialists who will provide psychological support at the Center for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing. Participants of the Winter School will undergo two weeks of gaining valuable hands-on experience in trauma-focused work.

From KSU, the following individuals are participating: project lecturer and content developer, Associate Professor Nataliia Tavrovetska; project lecturer, Associate Professor Ruslana Bilous; project lecturer, PhD Valentina Kalenchuk; Head of the Center for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing (CPRW), Tetiana Korniichuk; and office manager and postgraduate student, Mariia Pocheketa.

The Winter School is dedicated to the specialized trauma therapy method EMDR (Eye Movement Desensibilization and Reprocessing) – a technique for desensitizing and reprocessing trauma through guided eye movements.

The first day of training began with a speech by Professor Lars Kuchinke from the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU) Berlin, Germany, who outlined the structure of the training and offered recommendations for mastering the technique. Following this, clinical psychologist Mark Grant provided participants with a detailed overview of the key components, phases, and skills involved in the EMDR method.

The practical part of the training was enriched with case studies and video demonstrations of Mark Grant’s therapeutic work, helping participants to gain a deeper understanding of the therapeutic strategy behind the method.

KSU representatives expressed sincere gratitude to the organizers from the International Psychoanalytic University and Ukrainian partners for sharing advanced expertise in providing psychological support to academic communities affected by the war. The competencies gained during the training will soon be put into practice with the launch of the Center for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing at the Ivano-Frankivsk office of KSU.
