As Part of the Erasmus+ SMART-PL Project, the Team from Kherson State University Is Working in Wrocław

Tuesday, December 19, 2023

On the second day of their working visit to Wrocław, the delegation from Kherson State University held three important meetings. The first two were at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the third took place at the local office of our stakeholder, DataArt.

The delegation from Kherson State University included Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskiy, Vice-Rectors Alla Tsapiv and Maksym Vinnyk, Dean of Pedagogical Faculty Liubov Petukhova, and Head of the Department of International Initiatives and Project Management Yevheniia Revenko.

On the first day of the visit, December 13, the representatives of Kherson State University met with the Vice-Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Professor Dariusz Łydżba, who is responsible for cooperation with external partners, and Anna Jarosławska, Head of the Department of International Initiatives. They visited the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies, the Laboratory of Electromagnetic Compatibility and Telecommunication Systems, where scientific research is conducted.

As agreed during the previous meeting with Vice-Rector Dariusz Łydżba, the work is ongoing in two directions:

- Familiarization with the faculties with which potential collaboration may occur within the framework of academic mobility for students and faculty members, as well as cooperation at the department level regarding the implementation of joint projects under the Erasmus+ program. These include IT specialties, physics, mathematics, chemistry, and medicine.

- Detailing the cooperation within the Erasmus+ SMART-PL project for creating a personalised learning model, which is being implemented jointly with Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The Kherson State University delegation has already visited the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics, and Microsystems, which is successfully engaged in scientific developments in the fields of nanotechnology, cybernetics, and IT. They also got acquainted with the structure and operations of the Faculty of Management.

Dr. Mariusz Mazurkiewicz, who is the project coordinator for SMART-PL at the university, presented the philosophy behind creating a personalised learning trajectory for students, which is already implemented at the university. It is based on comprehensive support for motivated and ambitious students who associate their future with science and research. We were presented with the system of tutoring, course selection, and participation in research at all stages of study. This approach is already functioning, and within the SMART-PL project, the creation of a digital system is planned that would support the operation of the personalised learning model and could be scaled to other educational institutions. It was a very important meeting, during which we delved into the philosophy and details of the project and saw how flexible and, considering each student’s needs, everything is structured. We now have a clear understanding of how we will move forward together,” said Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.

Another meeting took place at DataArt. Oleksandr Spivakovskiy thanked the President of the Office, Richard Permus, and the Head of the Office, George Kremenetskyi. A large number of employees are from Kherson, and some are even graduates of Kherson State University. They talked about their hometown, Ukraine, and, of course, about joint projects. These include the involvement of DataArt specialists in the development of the KSU24 application, assistance in organizing a survey of displaced persons, which was conducted by the university’s sociological laboratory, and DataArt colleagues helping distribute the questionnaires. They also discussed holding joint educational events, olympiads, and lectures, as well as employment opportunities for our students and graduates at the company’s offices worldwide, including in Ukraine.

This is a long-standing collaboration, which is not just on paper but can truly be felt, and the results are visible. We thanked the DataArt team for their support of Ukraine, as they are providing immense humanitarian aid. We were also impressed that on the building in the center of Wrocław, where DataArt’s office is located, the Ukrainian flag is displayed and illuminated. It can be seen when passing by or traveling through the city center. Generally, the policy of the building’s tenants does not allow companies to display their country’s symbols, but the colleagues at DataArt found a diplomatic solution to reach an agreement,” added Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.

Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskiy emphasized that this is a very productive visit to Wrocław, during which direct communications have been established between the participants of the SMART-PL project, prospects for academic and scientific collaboration with Wrocław University of Science and Technology have been outlined, and coordination on joint projects with DataArt has taken place.

We are moving towards integration into the European educational environment, offering our students and researchers the best opportunities,” concluded Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.
