The Erasmus+ CBHE DigiUni project, officially titled "Digital University — Open Ukrainian Initiative," is an important initiative aimed at supporting higher education in Ukraine in the context of martial law and post-war reconstruction. It is currently the largest Erasmus+ project ever implemented in Ukraine.
In 2023, the European Commission opened a special window for Ukraine under the Erasmus+ program in response to the challenges faced by Ukrainian higher education due to the full-scale russian invasion and its consequences.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with Ukrainian partner universities, worked on a proposal that would combine a systemic approach, broad impact and cooperation of all Ukrainian HEIs. According to the results of the selection, the DigiUni project was the winner, and European partners supported it. Project duration: 2023 – 2027.
The project team includes 10 Ukrainian universities, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, the Ukrainian Association of IT Specialists, and foreign partner universities and associations of EU member states from France, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
The project was first presented on October 11, 2023.
DigiUni aims to become the only digital educational ecosystem in Ukraine that will provide continuous, high-quality, inclusive and transparent education, regardless of the location of students and teachers, using existing digital innovations in education and having a clear paradigm for attracting future innovations.
The project also aims to support students who continued their studies in Ukraine during martial law, and to promote strengthening ties between Ukrainian universities, their students and teachers who were forced to leave Ukraine. The project also focuses on popularizing Ukrainian studies and engaging foreign students and Ukrainians living abroad in Ukrainian education in general.
