KSU Participates in a Project to Strengthen Higher Education Resilience for a Total of 400 Thousand Euros

Tuesday, August 01, 2023

Kherson State University has joined a major new Erasmus+ KA220-HED project – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education – "Academies4Ukraine – Strengthening Higher Education Resilience in Ukraine and the European Union."

The project focuses on enhancing the resilience of higher education in Ukraine and the EU, with a total budget of €400,000, of which Kherson State University will receive €56,000.

Rector of KSU Oleksandr Spivakovskiy notes:

"This is extremely important for us because, over the past year and a half, our university team has demonstrated unity, resilience, and dedication to Ukrainian education. Together with our graduate educators, we have resisted and continue to resist the occupiers' attempts to impose their educational standards in Kherson region. We have already won the educational battle on the right bank of the Dnipro, and now educators continue to uphold Ukrainian education on the left bank. This is a proven fact, as nearly 100 Ukrainians currently in temporarily occupied areas of the region have applied to Kherson State University this year.

Participation in this project is a testament to European institutions' support for the Ukrainian academic community in its resistance to full-scale war."

The project aims to strengthen support for Ukrainian Higher Education institutions by assisting in the creation of psychological, social, and cultural support services to facilitate integration into the European Union.

Specifically, the project will focus on:

  • Exchanging best practices for adapting university students who were forced to flee due to the war.
  • Coordinating and implementing psychological support programs for students.
  • Enhancing Ukraine-EU cooperation based on shared values.

The main coordinator of the project is the Italian international company I-Strategies.

"Together with our partners, University of Helsinki, Riga Technical University, Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, and Odesa National Technological University, we will continue working on three key areas:
1) Creating conditions for student adaptation during and after the war.
2) Documenting and promoting the experience of Ukraine’s academic community in its struggle for independence and peace.
3) Strengthening Ukraine-EU cooperation through joint educational projects.

So, only forward! We strengthen our resilience, develop higher education, and expand international partnerships!" – concluded the Rector.

Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskiy also expressed gratitude to Vice-Rector for International, Social and Humanitarian, Research and Education Affairs Alla Tsapiv and Head of the International Initiatives and Project Management Department Yevheniia Revenko for coordinating the university's international efforts and advancing its internationalization.
