KSU is Working on a Documentary on Academic Resilience Within an International Project

Thursday, April 25, 2024

Kherson State University continues its work on the creation of the documentary film “Stories of Academic Resilience in Ukraine” as part of the international “Academies4Ukraine” project under the Erasmus+ program (KA220-HED - Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education).

During the project's kick-off meeting in Offida, Italy, in November, the first video interviews were recorded with representatives of Ukrainian universities participating in the initiative.

Currently, interviews have been recorded with KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskiy and First Vice-Rector Serhii Omelchuk.

"We shared our memories of the first days of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the university’s work under temporary occupation, and the relocation process. Next, we will conduct interviews with other representatives of our academic community," said Oleksandr Spivakovskiy.

Recently, during a meeting with the project coordinator, Gianluca Vagnarelli from i-strategies, the team discussed the creative concept and technical aspects of the documentary film’s production.

"For us, participation in this project is crucial as it aligns with our ongoing efforts to document the history of resistance over the past two years. We have already published works such as ‘The Black Swan" in the History of Kherson State University, or Chronicles of a Relocated University’, ‘Chronicle of Civil Resistance in Kherson during Russia's Full-Scale Aggression against Ukraine in 2022’ (by Dr. Oleksandr Cheremisin, Professor of the Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methods), and ‘Kherson Essays: Live to Win’. We continue our work," emphasized the Rector.

All project participants are involved in the creation of the film. In addition to Kherson State University, the project brings together two other Ukrainian universities – Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University and Odesa National University of Technologies – as well as two international partners: the University of Helsinki (Finland) and RTU - Rīga Technical University (Latvia).
