On-Campus Learning Week Continues at the Faculty of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics!

Today, May 27, 2025, marks the second day of the On-Campus Learning Week at the Faculty of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics in Ivano-Frankivsk.

The day began with an introduction to SoftServe, one of Ukraine’s leading IT companies specializing in software development and consulting services.

 

The program continued with a guest lecture by Vitalii Horelov, Ph.D. in Technical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, titled "Introduction to Android Mobile App Development."

Students also had the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Yurii Bezghachniuk, a representative of SoftServe, during which the following key topics were discussed:

💡 Global tech trends: AI, quantum computing, robotics, biotechnology, IoT, and other innovations that are shaping the future.

🛡️ Cybersecurity: its growing importance, particularly in the context of the threats facing Ukraine. Special attention was given to the ongoing Russian cyber aggression that has persisted since 2014.

👨‍💻 The evolution of the Software Engineer role: from SE 1.0 to the new era of SE 3.0 and the concept of Vibe-Coding.

🌍 OpenTech: SoftServe’s volunteer-based crowdsourcing platform implementing socially significant IT projects in education, ecology, healthcare, and community development.

📚 Professional development: students received a curated list of recommended books for advancing their IT knowledge, along with invitations to join SoftServe Academy communities.

The students also attended a guest lecture on the topic “Fundamentals of Mobile Application Development for Android,” delivered by Vitalii Oleovtynovych Horielev — Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

During the lecture, the students were introduced to the basics of working with Android Studio — the official development environment for Android mobile applications.

🔍 The lecture covered:

• the structure of an Android project

• key files and principles of working with XML layout for user interface design

• the use of Kotlin as a modern alternative to Java

• a comparison of Kotlin and traditional Java capabilities

It was an exciting and informative day full of inspiration and new insights!
