Veteran Support Specialist of the Municipal Institution Center for the Provision of Social Services “Doviria,” Kateryna Boichuk, introduced the graduates to the key professional competencies and working tools (cases) of the specialist, typical tasks, the level of demand, and the advantages of this profession.

Support specialists are people who help veterans, female veterans, and their family members every day to navigate support programs and obtain the necessary services. The role of veteran support specialists is to be there when complex issues arise and to make interaction with the state clearer and more accessible. Their work covers a wide range of areas: from consultations on rights, statuses, and social guarantees to assistance with housing, medical treatment, rehabilitation, employment, or starting a business. When needed, specialists help with claims and applications, interact with military units regarding certificates, medical commissions, or financial support, and also ensure that veterans in the community receive all the necessary services.

Veteran support specialists are a bridge between veterans and the entire system of state support. They help guide the path from a question to a result, provide assistance at every stage, and make public services closer and more understandable.

Master’s students of the “Social Work” program, during the networking session, learned more about who veterans are and what needs they have; they became acquainted with the specifics of veterans’ adaptation after returning from the front, the work with military families, support in rehabilitation, and assistance to veterans in employment and resocialization.

Thanks to the interview with veteran support specialist Kateryna Boichuk, graduating master’s students gained detailed insights into working with PTSD among former military personnel, the specifics of applying technologies for supporting veterans with disabilities, familiarized themselves with the list of social services available to military families, and delved into the specifics of professional ethics in working with service members and their families.

During the event, graduating master’s students also had the opportunity to learn about the functioning of the Municipal Institution Center for the Provision of Social Services “Doviria” (Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region).
