Vital knowledge: seizures and first aid!

Today we deepened our knowledge on an extremely important topic! We attended a meaningful lecture by Vereshchakina Viktoriya Viktorivna, associate professor of the Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, Kherson State University, on the topic: “Seizures. Types of seizures, diseases and pathological conditions that can cause seizures in patients. First aid”.
This lesson became key to understanding the neurophysiological foundations of emergency conditions.
What did we learn?
• Bioelectrical activity of the brain: We got acquainted with how the brain functions normally, and what disorders lead to convulsive states.
• Diagnostics: We considered research methods, in particular Electroencephalography (EEG), which allows us to detect pathological activity of neurons.
• Types and causes of seizures: the teacher explained in detail the physiological and pathological nature of seizures, and also considered the conditions that cause them (epilepsy, hypoxia, intoxication, brain damage).
Emergency care is a life-saving skill
Special and most important attention was paid to first aid during a seizure.
After the theory, we practiced the practical skills of transferring the patient to a stable lateral position after an attack. This is a key element in preventing aspiration and restoring breathing.
Thank you to Viktoriya Viktorovna for such a meaningful and necessary lecture for clinical practice! This is knowledge that everyone should have!
