Anastasiia Volianiuk, a lecturer at the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Preschool and Primary Education at Kherson State University and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Education for International Activities, took part in the Basel Peace Forum 2026, which was held in Basel, Switzerland.
The event was held for the tenth time and had a jubilee character, marking a decade of international interdisciplinary dialogue on peace, security, and social responsibility.
The Basel Peace Forum, organized by the Swisspeace research institute, is a prestigious international platform that brings together scholars, educators, representatives of international organizations, and civil society. The forum aims to analyze contemporary challenges to peace and explore new approaches to peacebuilding in conditions of global instability.
Anastasiia Volianiuk participated in the Basel Peace Forum for the third time—representing Kherson State University annually since 2024—which highlights the continuity of her professional presence in the international academic community.
As part of the forum program, Anastasiia Volianiuk attended the Research Slam, a dedicated focus area of the event showcasing contemporary research on peace, conflict, and social resilience. The Research Slam format involves dynamic presentations of research ideas, innovative approaches, and interdisciplinary methodologies, allowing participants to quickly familiarize themselves with current scientific trends and innovative concepts.
Another focus area of the forum was a conceptual discussion on the topic “Can Peace Survive Security?” This session focused on the complex interrelations between peace and security in the modern world, as well as the risks of security discourse dominating over humanitarian, social, and educational dimensions of peace. Participants discussed whether security policies can promote lasting peace or, conversely, undermine it if they neglect human, social, and psychological aspects.
Participation in these focus areas allowed Anastasiia Volianiuk to deepen her professional reflection on the role of education, pedagogy, and psychology in fostering a culture of peace, as well as to present the Ukrainian context in the international discourse on peace, security, and social resilience amid war.
The involvement of the Kherson State University lecturer in the Basel Peace Forum 2026 underscores the active integration of the university into the international scientific and educational space and strengthens the presence of the Ukrainian academic voice in global discussions on peace and the future.
