The voice of Kherson region in Berlin: Kherson State University student Valentina Fedorchuk presented a book about the occupation in Germany

Testimonies that the world has no right to ignore. From 23 to 26 February, a series of presentations of the book ‘When There's No Knocking at the Door: 25 Stories About the Russian Occupation of Ukraine’ took place in Berlin.

Monday, March 02, 2026

Among the co-authors of the collection is Valentina Fedorchuk, a journalism student at Kherson State University.

The collection brings together 25 personal accounts from residents of various regions of Ukraine who survived the Russian occupation between 2014 and 2022. Today, this publication is a critically important contribution to the preservation of historical memory. It documents Russia's attempts to destroy Ukrainian identity and tells the story of the survival and spiritual resistance of people who refused to remain silent.

Along with Valentina, the following people shared their stories at the presentations:

●Volodymyr Shcherbachenko — editor of the book, head of the Eastern Ukrainian Centre for Public Initiatives;

●Natalia Guran — a social activist who survived the occupation in the Kyiv region;

●Natalia Nesenyuk — a psychologist from Mariupol who was under siege in the city while pregnant.

For Kherson State University, the participation of students in projects of this level is a testament to their high level of professional training and civic courage. Valentina was active in her profession even before entering university, and now she uses her skills to convey the truth about the consequences of Russian crimes.

The publication of the book in English is a strategic step that allows European readers to understand why life under Russian rule is completely unacceptable for Ukrainians and what exactly we are fighting for today.

The event was organised by the Eastern Ukrainian Centre for Civic Initiatives (EUCCI) in cooperation with KURVE Wustrow.
