A meaningful profession: how Kherson State University is paving the way into philology and journalism

The Department of Ukrainian and Slavic Philology and Journalism at Kherson State University held a career guidance event for students at Zelenivska Secondary School and Secondary School No. 32 in Kherson.

Monday, March 02, 2026

The purpose of the meeting was to familiarise high school students with educational programmes and career opportunities.

The head of the department, guarantor of the educational programme "Secondary Education. Ukrainian Language and Literature‘ S.M. Klimovich, guarantor of the educational programme ’Journalism" A.F. Solomakhin, Doctor of Science, Professor V.P. Oleksenko, and lecturer of the department T.M. Mandych. They talked about the content of the programme, the specifics of training specialists, and answered questions from students.

Particular attention was paid to the advantages of studying at Kherson State University. Educational programmes combine a solid theoretical base with practical training: philology students acquire teaching skills, undergo practical training in educational institutions and have the opportunity to realise their potential in the educational and cultural spheres. Future journalists work with real information materials, master modern media formats, and participate in content creation and communication projects. It is important that the training takes place in an environment focused on the current challenges of the region, which allows students to get involved in the processes of restoring the information and cultural space of the Kherson region while still studying. We sincerely thank the heads of educational institutions — Maria Bohdanivna Dekhanova, Volodymyr Vasylovych Pedchenko, and Oleksandra Heorhiivna Nedelkova — for their assistance in organising the meeting and for encouraging students to take an interest in choosing their future profession.
