KSU Representative Conducted a Training on Developing a Sensitive Approach in Educational Practice

Thursday, April 16, 2026

On April 14, within the framework of the international Erasmus+ project BURN (“Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-)War Ukrainian Nation”), the second wave of training for participants in the educational process on the topic “Trauma-Informed Education (TIE)” began at the Center for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing of Kherson State University.

The training was conducted by Larysa Tor, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at KSU.

The aim of the event was to introduce teachers to the key principles of the trauma-informed approach and to develop practical skills for creating a safe and supportive educational environment for students who have experienced traumatic events.

Participants explored modern approaches to understanding psychological trauma, including its types and impact on cognitive, emotional and behavioral manifestations in the learning process. Special attention was given to the neurobiological aspects of trauma and the reactions of the nervous system under stress.

The practical part of the training included case-based work illustrating the impact of traumatic experiences on students’ learning activities. Within group work, participants developed strategies for trauma-informed interaction, including:

-         creating a safe and predictable educational environment;

-         applying principles to support the autonomy of students;

-         using a resource-based approach;

-         implementing trauma-informed assessment practices.

Another focus of the training was the development of teachers’ professional self-reflection skills through the use of a so-called “trauma-informed lens,” which involves reinterpreting students’ behavioral patterns as possible responses to traumatic experience.

The event used interactive teaching methods, including group discussions, case analysis and reflective exercises.

The implementation of such trainings contributes to enhancing teachers’ psychological competence and developing the system of student support in wartime and post-war conditions.

We thank all participants for their engagement, openness to new experience and joint efforts in creating a supportive educational environment.

The training was held within the international Erasmus+ BURN project (“Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-)War Ukrainian Nation”).
