From 10 to 12 April, the annual conference of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES 2026) was held at the University of Birmingham. Among the speakers was Natalia Kuzovova, Head of the Department of History, Archaeology and Teaching Methods at Kherson State University. The conference was hosted by the Centre for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies (CREES). The event covered research in politics, history, sociology, geography, film and media studies, linguistics, and related fields, with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe.
In her presentation, “Childhood during the Holodomor: Regional Survival Strategies and Soviet State Policies,” Natalia Kuzovova examined new aspects of regional survival strategies and offered a new perspective on the Holodomor as genocide through an analysis of resource distribution practices in Soviet children’s institutions.
