Training on the formation of a sensitive approach in educational activities

On April 14, as part of the Erasmus+ BURN international project ("Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-)War Ukrainian Nation"), the Center for Psychological Resilience and Well-being of Kherson State University started the second wave of training for participants in the educational process on the topic "Trauma-informed education (TIO)".

Wednesday, April 15, 2026

The training was conducted by Tyor Larisa, Ph.D., Assoc. Department of Psychology of KSU.
The purpose of the event was to acquaint teachers with the key principles of a trauma-informed approach and to form practical skills in creating a safe, supportive educational environment for students who have experienced traumatic events.
Training participants considered modern approaches to understanding psychological trauma, in particular, its types and impact on cognitive, emotional and behavioral manifestations in the educational process. Particular attention was paid to neurobiological aspects of trauma, as well as reactions of the nervous system under conditions of stress.
The practical part of the event involved working with cases illustrating the impact of traumatic experiences on students' educational activities. Within the framework of group work, the participants worked out trauma-informed interaction strategies, in particular:
● creation of a safe and predictable educational environment;
● application of the principles of supporting the autonomy of education seekers;
● use of a resource-oriented approach;
● implementation of trauma-informed assessment practices.
A separate area of work became the formation of professional self-reflection skills of the teacher through the use of the so-called "trauma-informed lens", which involves rethinking the behavioral manifestations of students as possible reactions to traumatic experiences.
The event took place using interactive learning methods, including group discussions, analysis of practical situations and reflective exercises.
The implementation of such trainings contributes to the improvement of the psychological competence of teachers and the development of the system of support for education seekers in the conditions of war and post-war times.
We thank all participants for inclusion, openness to new experiences and joint work on creating a supportive educational space.
The training took place within the framework of the Erasmus+ BURN international project
