The Department of Physical Education Theory and Methodology was created as soon as the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports began to active, in April 1994.
The department's activities are aimed at training specialists in the following fields: A4.11 Secondary Education (Physical Culture); A4.11 Secondary Education (Physical Culture) (shortened period of study); field of knowledge: A Education, at the higher education level: Bachelor, Master.
Staff of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Education:Currently, the department employs 5 full-time instructors:
1. Kostrіkova Kateryna Serhiyivna – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Senior Lecturer – Acting Head of the Department;
2. Pryshva Oles Borysovych – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor;
3. Koval Viktoriya Yuriyivna – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor;
4. Hrabovskyi Yuriy Antonovych – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor;
5. Balkovyi Ihor Anatoliyovych – Department Lecturer;
The main directions of the department's scientific and methodological work are related to the issues of preparing future teachers equipped with pedagogical technologies for the physical education of schoolchildren. These include the problems of the impact of physical activity on the development of the human body; the issues of educating schoolchildren through physical culture and sports; and the problems of selecting gifted youth.
The department constantly strives to improve the conditions for the educational-methodical and scientific work of the faculty's teachers and students. To this end, since January 2003, an educational-methodical office has been operating, containing over 3,800 copies of scientific and methodological literature (more than 200 of which were prepared by the department's teachers), 25 periodicals, examples of term papers and theses, and samples of reports from pedagogical practice. Significant attention is paid to the research work of students, master's students, and college students at Kherson State University. Recently, students have been participating annually in nationwide student Olympiads in physical education and physical rehabilitation, where they achieve prize-winning places. The department's teachers also participate in organizing and conducting scientific-practical conferences and seminars.
For the purpose of quality training, higher education students undergo academic and industrial internships, which are supervised by the department's lecturers in accordance with agreements concluded with educational institutions in the city of Kherson and the region: Kherson Professional Sports College, secondary schools No. 24, No. 27, No. 30, No. 48, No. 52, No. 53, No. 55, gymnasiums No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, Kherson School of Humanitarian Labor, Hola Prystan General Education School No. 1, and others.
