Chair of Defectology and Basis of Medicine is the youngest at the Institute of Natural Science of KSU. It was founded in 2000. It trains specialists on the specialty - “ Defect Science. Correction Pedagogics. Oligophrenic Pedagogics and Logopaedics. It prepares the students at full-time studies and by correspondence. Future work of these specialists are “special educational” pre-school establishments, classes of IPK? at secondary schools.
At the department the following courses are trained as: Pathology Psychology, Defect Science, Basics of Clinical Knowledge, Medical Genetics, Oligophrenic Pedagogics, Correction Pedagogics of all Types of ZPR?. During the training appropriate means of education, the newest technologies including modern computer programs are used.
The teachers of the department are lecturing the course “Basics of Medical Knowledge” at inter-department level.
9 employees , among them 5 Assistant Professors, Candidates of Sciences work at the department.
Teachers of the department have close ties with the broad section of the public of researchers of Ukraine. The department collaborates with state universities of Kiev, Kharkov, Slavyansk, Kamenets-Podolsk, Lugansk, Dnepropetrovsk and other educational and research establishments. All-Ukrainian Conference “Medical and Psychological Problems of Defect Science” took place in December 2000 at the department. The collection of research works was issued after it.
The department works on scientific problem “Medical and Social Aspects of Rehabilitation of Children with Anomaly of Development”, develops methodical literature, courses of lectures on the subjects. On the basis of the department medical, psychological and defect consulting is provided. There are also the classes on Logopaedics for the children with speech problems.
